Critical Race Theory in BSD
Recently, BSD staff have been asked if we have adopted Critical Race Theory (CRT) curriculum. The answer is no, we have not and no, there is no curriculum for Critical Race Theory and no, there is not training in Critical Race Theory. In BSD, we do often use the acronym "CRT" in reference to Culturally Responsive/Relevant Teaching. Culturally Responsive Teaching focuses on the child, not the materials. In Culturally Responsive Teaching, we strive to know each child and build on their strengths, offer books and learning experiences that reflect their identity and their experiences, and value each child and their learning progression.
State Testing for 3rd-5th
Dear 3rd-5th grade families,
As you read in an email sent to you on Monday, April 19, BSD is offering SBAC state testing to our students. Please complete the form linked below for each of your 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders by Friday, April 30, indicating whether you want your child to take the test or not.
This year, SBAC scores will NOT impact:
Your child’s TAG identification, or admittance into SUMMA in 6th grade
Your child’s grades
Our school’s funding or status
As always, students are not held back if they do not participate in state testing
