MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT
Dear Parents,
Have you heard of Duolingo? It's an app that has language courses for many different languages. It's a great resource for practicing your English if it is your second language. It's also terrific for students to strengthen their native language skills. The stronger your native language, the stronger your second language! Check out Duolingo.com. It's free!
A reminder about turning in assignments. I have noticed that attendance is lower on Wednesdays and this is due to the fact that students are not turning in enough assignments. Wednesday attendance is determined by the assignments turned in. If assignments are not turned in, then your child is counted as absent. Please be sure your child is doing their work AND turning it in on Google Classroom or SeeSaw.
Tonight is Parent University! This one-time workshop is on How to Help Your Child with Math at Home. This is a very important topic, interpretation is provided, and you can do it from home via Zoom! Today at 5:30 p.m. https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJcvdOqorTgtGtXg5trN1qiFh5EefCHgIAm1
See you there!
Now that our county has regressed to the purple tier in COVID safety, please be even more conscientious about wearing your mask, washing your hands, and staying 6 feet from others.
We will get through this safely together if we all are very diligent about these safety measures.
Warm Regards,
Theresa Lambert

Socio-emotional Tool of the Week - The Breathing Tool
When we breathe purposefully with the Breathing Tool, it calms and slows us down and brings our attention inward. We become more self aware and self-reflective about our bodies, minds, emotions, and impulses. Because of that, we are more likely to have the insight and time to react more appropriately in stressful situations-in our own best interests and in the best interests of others.

Family Communication RE: ASYNCHRONOUS DAY
Dear Parents,
We have successfully completed the first trimester of the 2020-2021 school year!
November is the time of year when we reflect and think of those whom we are grateful for. Teachers, school staff and parents all have an important role in the success of all our students. MVWSD would like to show our gratitude to everyone for their dedication and commitment over the past several months.
On Tuesday, November 24th, MVWSD will have a district-wide staff / team building day. To accommodate this, Tuesday, November 24th will be an asynchronous day for students. This means that, instead of live lessons, we’ll have a day that looks more like our typical Wednesdays. Students will still have morning check-ins, art, music, and PE classes that are live sessions and have been previously scheduled. The rest of the day will feature fun learning activities that students can do at their own pace.
The intention is that this day of thankfulness is a little more fun and relaxed, and starts off our Thanksgiving holiday during which we will count our many blessings for health, family, friends, and all who support us in every way.
Thank you so much for supporting our teachers and staff.

LAMV PTA Council and SELPA 1 CAC present Distance Learning Toolkit: Increasing Focus Through a Sensory Lens
Thursday December 3, 7-8:30 PM. A talk with Lisa Kaplan Shanaan, MS OTR/L TMHP
How do you stay engaged? How do you calm down when excited, or pep up when you are zoned out? You may know your own body and the tricks that work for you, but children are still working this out. It is especially difficult to learn self-regulation when involved in distance learning on screens for hours a day. Come learn from Lisa Kaplan Shaanan, an occupational therapist and trainer, who has been working with children birth thru 18 years old for more than 30 years. She will recommend tools and techniques useful to help all children discover their best ways to self-regulate and really learn and stay engaged during the Zoom school day.
