Grade Level Meetings
Grade Level Meetings - Standards Updates
We just finished up grade level meetings for our OSTP math grades. Our plan was to meet with each grade level before school is out to discuss next year, but the math standards are still waiting for approval in the Oklahoma Legislature. We will wait and set up meetings in August and September to go through the changes for your grade level.

Playing Card Math Games for Early Childhood
I Spy
- Lay out 3-4 rows of cards with 4 in each row face up.
- Player 1 will give an “I spy” clue.
- Ex. I spy a card with 3 hearts.
- I spy the number 7.
- I spy two cards that sum to 8.
- Player 2 will find the cards that match the clue and remove them from the grid.
Make Ten
Note: Use cards A -1 only or use subitizing cards.
Procedure:
- Lay out 3-4 rows of cards with 4 in each row face up.
- Player 1 will give an “I spy” clue.
- Ex. I spy a card with 3 hearts.
- I spy two cards that sum to 8.
- Player 2 will find the cards that match the clue and remove them from the grid.
Review Games
Review can = FUN
Review doesn't have to be drill and kill. Math never has to be BORING! Make it fun! Try around the room, Easter egg hunt, or a quizizz game.
Easter Egg Hunt
Materials:
- Plastic Eggs
- Math Problems
Procedure: Cut out and place the problems into the plastic cases and hide them. This can be an indoor or outdoor activity. Then have your students search for them and solve.
Suggestions/Tips:
- Create double or triple the amount of eggs than the number of students in your class depending on how long you want the activity to last.
- Limit the number of eggs each child can get so that other children have an opportunity to find an egg.
- Have students include their names on the problem so you know who solved it.
- You could break your class into teams to see which team found the most eggs.
K-2 try some of these problems.
3-6 try some problems from your OSTP review or from chapter test questions from your book.
Around the Room
Materials:
- 1 set of review problems
- Clipboards
- Paper/pencil
Take all those review questions, cut them apart, and tape them on walls and desks around the room.Students number a paper from 1 - ?, and then students will use clipboards to walk around and do math in any order they want. Typically this is completed with a partner so that you are free to wander listen to conversations and use questioning as part of the review. This is great for formative assessment!

A Very Improbably Story (5th - 6th)
Written by: Edward Einhorn
Ethan wakes up one morning to find a very strange cat stuck on his head. The cat, Odds, refuses to budge until Ethan wins a game of probability. Without looking, Ethan must pick out a dime from his coin collection or two matching socks from his dresser, or do something else improbable. If he doesn't, Odds is there to stay, and Ethan has a 100% chance of missing his big soccer game. A very improbable story about a challenging math concept.
