Margaret Circle
The Margaret Circle will resume meeting on Thursday, Sept. 8, 1:00 pm. We are skipping the first Thursday of Sept. because it is before Labor Day. Katy Cardwell will be providing the program.
A Special Thank You
From Building & Grounds
Some of the old CFLs are starting to go in the vestibule. There are too many to switch out to LEDs right now as the LEDs are costly.. A thought is to replace the CFLs in the Sanctuary - only 8 vs. 32 in the vestibule, with new LEDs as there are fewer there and use the CFLs from the Sanctuary to replace the burned out CFLs in the vestibule. However, there are varying styles, brightness levels and wattages of LEDs to choose from. Some of the CFLs in the Sanctuary are going to be temporarily replaced with some of the different styles of LEDs that are available and will be on for viewing / consideration during upcoming Sunday Services. CFLs. are old tech and being phased out. LEDs go with our commitment to the environment and will last a long time. Note that the burned out CFLs are being properly disposed of at the ACUA. Building and grounds welcomes input from the congregation as to which of the new choices would be a good fit.
Also, please be mindful of traveling across the grassy areas surrounding the building and stay out of the woods as the chiggers are fierce this time of year!
Thanks,
Building and Grounds.
From the Kitchen
Coffee Hour seems to be going well after a long pause. Thanks you to Nancy, Mike, Sue and Julie for helping.
Going forward: We used to do 5th Sunday Shared Meal.. In light of still not trying to be too close to each other, a thought has come up to do something new. 5th Sunday B&B. No, not Benedictine & Brandy but Bagels & Baked Goods. On this day we will have bagels, limited toppings of choice, and are asking the bakers among us if they would like to bring something to share, cookies, breads, vegan, vegetarian, you get the idea. The first B&B would be on October 30th. Giving us time to plan..
Please let the Brew Crew know if anyone has special dietary requests for coffee fixings or vittles.
Thanks,
The Brew Crew

Allies In Caring is celebrating its 10th Anniversary and our partnership with Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA), at the AIC Gala Fundraiser that will take place at the beautiful Bishop Farmstead, Southampton, NJ, on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The UU community is dear to us, thanks to the UU's financial support, since last May when we opened the ConVivir Wellness Hub, we have been offering free counseling, free art programs, ESL classes, Computer classes, Parenting Skills programs, Workforce Development programs, etc.
We hope the UU community can continue to support our efforts. The individuals we serve with your financial support, are traditionally defined by what they lack of, or their impairments. people labeled as Poor, Undocumented, Deaf, children with developmental disabilities, with mental and emotional disturbances or with disruptive behaviors. We care about them because we know that in fact these people have both: limitations and strengths Our services restore their sense of personal agency, safety, and self-worth. Our programs help them develop relevant skills and knowledge, access to resources to fulfill their basic needs, and opportunities to develop meaningful relationships and contribute their talents.
Please consider joining us as we meet old and new friends in person for delicious appetizers, music, dancing, and a special announcement about Con-Vivir!
Erik Estrada, Community Manager at the Community Foundation of South Jersey, and Cassie Iacovelli, Executive Director at MainStreet Hammonton, will be honored as "Inclusion Pathfinders" for their work opening the way for diverse voices and leadership in our communities and creating inclusive communities in South Jersey.

Notes From the Board
John Brilla and Karen York are investigating the Employee Retention Tax Credit under the Consolidated Appropriations Act. We will be hearing more about this in the months to come. Filing for this tax credit could result in an unexpected windfall for our congregation.
Please continue to sign the health pledge when you are in the building. The table we use for the health pledges will be moved back to a more prominent location.
Please save the date: Saturday November 12th will be our annual auction. You will hear more about this in the coming months but wanted to get the date out to everyone as early as possible. This is our big fundraiser of the year and we look forward to everyone’s support.

Call to Action
Back to School Supplies Needed
Are you looking for another way to donate your treasures?
It’s almost back to school time! The Eastern Service Workers Association (ESWA) is once again collecting “backpack” school supplies for 200 needy families.
This is another way for us as a congregation to show our support for this grass roots organization.
There will be a box in the foyer for you to place your donations. ESWA is collecting the following school supplies:
- Big Erasers,
- paper,
- pencils,
- binders,
- calculators,
- pencil cases,
- crayons,
- pencil sharpeners,
- folders,
- protractors,
- highlighters,
- markers,
- scissors,
- spiral notebooks,
- mini staplers,
- tape.
They also accept cash that will help them purchase the backpacks (at a discount) and any of the other supplies that are needed.
Clothing Donations
Place your clean contributions in the brown bin in the foyer, under the Social Justice table to the left!!
Blessing Bags
This summer the children and youth in our Children's RE program are exploring service to others. Our first principle asks us to treat each person with dignity and respect. We are going to make ziploc bags of things people who are unhoused might need, such as a toothbrush, deodorant, even a snack to keep them going. But we need help collecting all the items.
Please review the sign up link below and help us make this project a reality!
Short on time? Don't know exactly what to get? You can also order directly from our Amazon Wish List!
Donations can be brought in to UUCSJS through August 21st.
Thank you to all the people who have donated to this project! We appreciate you and have almost ALL the items we need to bless 50 people! Here is all that remains on our list:
- 14 trial size lotions
- 14 trial size hand sanitizers
- 4 bars of soap
- 26 small wet wipes packs
Flowers for the Chalice Table
Please schedule with Colby to donate flowers to be shared from our chalice table. You're welcome to take the arrangement home or we can find a new home!

Baseball: An American Religion
Presented by Lay speaker Deb Dagavarian
Baseball and religion have many similarities, including rituals, superstitions, moral inspiration, and reverence for the sacred. Join us to hear this somewhat lighthearted look at our national pastime.
