Hewlett Theatre

The Educational Theatre Association and the International Thespian Honor Society have partnered with the American Alliance for Theatre and Education to sponsor Theatre in Our Schools to raise public awareness of the impact of Theatre education and draw attention to the need for more access to quality programs for all students.

The goal of TIOS month is to not only raise awareness inside the school walls, but beyond and into the community; to share the story of the importance of school theatre with leaders, influencers, policymakers, and all community members.

It is a mission of our Theatre program to raise awareness about the importance of Theatre education as a valued part of our curriculum.

Studies have shown that high school students engaged in theatre training develop a higher level of empathy and are better able to communicate and collaborate.

To celebrate, the Theatre program will be sponsoring our original, live children’s show on March 5th and holding the Day of Theatre showcases on March 19th to bring awareness of the importance of theatre education for all ages. Join us!

On February 26th upper-level students in the Theatre workshop courses and College Modern Drama attended a performance of the new, highly-acclaimed, Broadway musical, Jagged Little Pill. The Broadway field trip is a long-standing, annual tradition in the Hewlett Theatre program.

The Hewlett Theatre Company performed Ken Ludwig's hilarious farce, Lend Me a Tenor on February 5-8.

On December 12th & 17th, high school theatre students led workshops in improvisation and ensemble acting for grades 6, 7 & 8 at Woodmere Middle School.

Theatre students wrote and performed an original show for Kindness Day at FECC on January 31st.

In addition to performing an original show at FECC, Theatre Workshop 1/2 (our intermediate level) has been covering units in commedia dell arte, monologues, auditioning and pantomime/mime.

The Hewlett Theatre Company will be performing The Ash Girl by Timberlake Wertenbaker on April 2nd - 4th. In this adaptation of the Cinderella story, don’t expect to see much in the way of pumpkins and party dresses. In this new version, tjhe Ash Girl, aided by owls, otters and mice, must struggle to overcome the Seven Deadly Sins in order to find her happily ever after. There is something to love for everyone in this charming new take on a familiar tale.
