Educator of the Year - 4th Grade Teacher Jorie Dragas
District 41 is pleased to announce that Forest Glen Elementary School 4th Grade Teacher Jorie Dragas has been named the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce District 41 Educator of the Year! Superintendent Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski surprised her with the news yesterday at school.
A number of individuals nominated Mrs. Dragas for this honor. One nominator said, “Mrs. Dragas is the epitome of an excellent educator. She has the ability to adapt her teaching methods to each student's unique learning style while creating a fun atmosphere. She cares just as much about her students' well being as their academic success. She instills her students with kindness, curiosity and a love of learning so they emerge from her class as compassionate and independent leaders.” A parent who nominated Mrs. Dragas said, “Phenomenal teacher! Has propelled my daughter in every area. Such an amazing experience. Thank you, Mrs. Dragas!”
Mrs. Dragas will be honored on March 12 at the Glen Ellyn Community Awards banquet.
Feedback Opportunity! Take the Illinois 5Essentials Survey
All parents are encouraged to participate in a brief survey to help District 41 gather valuable data to inform school improvement. The Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey is administered annually by the Illinois State Board of Education. The survey is open now through March 29, 2024.
Click here to take the survey and choose “Parent Survey.” The deadline is March 29.
Each school needs at least 20 percent parent participation for a data report to be provided for the school. Thank you in advance for your participation. Your feedback is very much appreciated!
For questions regarding the survey, please call Department of Wellness at (217) 782-5270 or email 5Essentials@isbe.net.

Hadley Band Student Performs in Lifetime of Music Concert
Hadley Jr. High School 8th Grader Alex Koehler (French Horn) performed in the 20th Annual Lifetime of Music Initiative Concert with the Northshore Concert Band on Sunday, February 18 in the renowned Pick-Staiger Concert Hall on the campus of Northwestern University. Alex was one of 40 middle school musicians selected for this incredible performance. The concert program may be viewed here.
The Lifetime of Music Initiative is an annual event where local student musicians are invited to join Northshore Concert Band for a portion of their winter concert. This program provides a rewarding musical experience to young musicians: granting access to unique performance opportunities outside of the classroom, introducing students to outstanding wind band repertoire, and exposing participants to the performance opportunities that await them beyond high school, regardless of if they choose to pursue music as a career.
Congratulations to Alex Koehler!
Hadley 8th Grade Band Plays at Pep Band Night at Glenbard West
The Annual 8th Grade Pep Night at Glenbard West was a huge success! Hadley 8th Grade Band members got to be a part of the action from the start, enjoying a free pizza dinner, rehearsing with the high school musicians and their drum majors, and performing all together at a Glenbard West vs. Fenton Special Olympics Game. This was the first time the Pep Band performed at a basketball game for the students in the Life Skills Program! We were happy to be a part of the inaugural event, supporting the students and community with our music.
This was a collaborative event between Hadley Jr. High, Glenside Middle School, and Glenbard West High School. This is a great opportunity for Hadley Band students to get a firsthand glimpse in the role of a high school student in half a year! Hadley Band Directors Samantha Tribley and Chris Cooper saw so many Hadley Band Alumni continuing to play and make music a part of their lives at Glenbard West. Way to go Hadley and Glenbard West!
Navy Band Performance at Hadley Open to the Public
Hadley Junior High will be hosting the Navy Band Great Lakes Jazz Combo for a combined performance with the Hadley Junior High 8th Grade Jazz Band on Tuesday, February 27, 7:30 p.m. The Navy Band musicians will work with the 8th grade jazz students, and then present a shared concert in the evening.
This event is free and open to the public.
