Dismissal Reminders
We have noticed that our dismissal time is getting increasingly busy. To us, busy means less organized and potentially less safe. We are working on this from our end, but we need our families to help with this as well. Please follow these guidelines to help us make our dismissal smooth and safe for all. Thank you!!
Keep the way your child gets home consistent. Every change is an opportunity for miscommunication. Consistency is key!!
If you do need to change how your child is going home, please call the office before 3:00. We have been getting many calls right at our 3:30 dismissal and even after. This makes it very difficult for us to locate your child(ren) and redirect them to a different location.
If you are picking up your child by car, we strongly encourage you to stay in the car line. With snow coming sooner than later, we’ll have snow piles and potentially slippery conditions to deal with. We want students and families to be able to safely enter and exit our property.
A Note from the Nurse
We often lend students clothes during the winter season because of wet and cold weather. If your child comes home from school with borrowed clothes, those likely came from the nurse. Please make the time to wash and return these items to the school as soon as possible so we can extend this courtesy to other children and families. Thanks for your help with this!!
Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee Programming Informational Meeting
All multilingual families are invited to attend the Bilingual Parent Advisory Council meeting, which will be held at the CORE district office at 300 Commerce Drive in Crystal Lake on Thursday, November 9th at 6:00 p.m. At this meeting, you will have an opportunity to learn about bilingual programming and academic support in District 47 and the English language learner identification and assessment process. We will also review the Bilingual Service Plan that is submitted to the Illinois State Board of Education each year. If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca Morton at rmmorton@d47.org or 815.788.5030. We hope that you can join us and be a part of this important learning opportunity!
Student Directory
This year our PTO will not be managing the collection and creation of our Student Directory. In the past, families have chosen to share their contact information in a Student Directory to help facilitate social connections and activities outside of school.
This year, each classroom teacher will select one parent/family to manage this for the class. Please keep your eyes open for communication about the Class Student Directory. Remember, if you don't share your contact information, you will not be able to access the list. If you have any questions, please reach out to your classroom teacher.
Virtual Parenting Sessions with Jackie Rhew
District 47 will be hosting a four-part virtual parenting series for D47 parents and guardians starting November 15. In this first virtual session, Jacqueline will lead an interactive discussion around interventions and strategies to promote active school engagement. There will be a special emphasis placed on supporting students who have struggled with mental health, medical, or pain management concerns, leading to issues with attendance, work completion, and building healthy relationships in the school environment. Parents will:
- be prompted to self-reflect on beliefs and mindsets, especially how personal reactions can impact the confidence, motivation, and engagement of their children.
- gain strategies to respond to and assess their child’s needs.
- learn interventions in the home setting that promote school attendance and engagement.
- review obstacles and barriers to active school engagement.
Click the link below for more information about this and future virtual parenting sessions. Translation will be available. Note: The Zoom link for the 12/15 session will be included in the 11/14 newsletter and on the district website calendar. Virtual Parenting Flyer - ENG and SPAN
Miss Loftus' First Grade Class
Miss Loftus’ first grade class did some pumpkin experiments this October. They started by measuring and describing the outside. Then after Miss Loftus cut them open they observed the insides. Lastly, they filled the inside with an apple and a plastic bag and buried them in the Canterbury Garden to dig up on Earth Day 2024!
Upcoming Events
Monday, November 13th is both Chipotle Restaurant night from 5pm-9pm and the PTO meeting at 7pm in the STEM room or via Zoom. Grab some Chipotle and join us for the last PTO of the calendar year! (Chipotle Flyer and Meeting Flyer Attached)
