Hello TALE Friends!
Let me start off by saying what a GREAT first conference “back” in-person in Plano on March 4-5th, 2022. Thank you to our Conference Coordinators, partnering universities, sponsors, vendors, the TALE Board, and all who attended and supported the conference—despite the uncertainty of the pandemic still looming at the time. What was your favorite moment? Mine was getting to see, talk with, and serve you all—despite being REALLY busy. We appreciate your support in helping to make our 10th (#TALETurnsTEN) Annual Conference a success, and are SO excited about next year’s conference at the University of Houston-Clearlake in the Houston area.
As my tenure as Chair of the Board is coming to a close, I’d like to let you know of some exciting things that we have done as an organization over the past two years—despite the challenges that the pandemic has brought:
- TALE Virtual PD: We have had EIGHT virtual professional development events since 2020 (Thanks to Past-Chair Dr. Alida Hudson for getting the ball rolling on these events, after the cancellation of the 2021 Annual Conference)
- Establishment of the TAIR Emergent Literacy Leaders Program/Grant where applicants are selected to continue to spread the mission of TALE, provided mentorship, and encouraged to get involved at a deeper level.
- There has been a GROWTH in membership, despite the hard times we are strengthening the reach of the organization.
- Establishment of the Jack Cassidy Memorial Scholarship for graduate students (Thanks to the scholarship committee and Dr. Stephanie Grote-Garcia)
- A successful 10th year celebration/Annual conference #TALE2022
- TWO new Local Councils/Special Interest committees (GHALE in the Houston area, and R.E.A.D@TALE)
- Continued wins and service from the TALE Advocacy Committee (7th Year of winning the ILA Advocacy Award)
It has not been easy with the stress and changes that have occurred over the past two years. We know that we still have work to do. While meeting with the TALE Board in person (in March) we came up with the following goals to continue to thrive and be relevant in our state.
Thank you for letting me serve as your Chair for the 2021-2022 school year. I promise, I will continue my part to move us onward and upward.
