Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
This Friday, Feb 3rd, all students are scheduled to participate in a Social Emotional Learning assembly focused on the information related to Erin’s Law. See below for additional information:
Our students in kindergarten through fifth grade are currently in their Think First & Stay Safe Unit during their SEL rotation. During the past few weeks, students have had weekly lessons to help protect them from lures and sexual abuse. If you are not receiving your weekly ClassDOJO emails regarding your child’s specific lesson, please contact skiefer@ogschool.org
In addition to the elementary lessons, all students Kindergarten through eighth grade are scheduled to participate in an assembly presented by Erin Merryn, this Friday 2/3/17. Erin will have two presentations: one for Kindergarten-4th grade and a second for 5th-8th grade.
Erin Merryn is an internationally recognized speaker with 11 years of experience speaking to millions as far away as Australia. Erin's mission is to show others you can overcome all the obstacles life brings you and achieve anything you set your mind to, as long as you believe in yourself. Erin now has become a voice for the voiceless. In 2010, she created her own law, “Erin’s Law” in her home state of Illinois. Since then, it has either been passed or is being voted on in more than half the country. This law requires children to be educated on age appropriate personal body safety in schools. Her message describes a journey of resilience, inspiration, forgiveness, and determination. Erin has spoken at many schools and will deliver an age appropriate assembly.
Thank you to our PTO and OGSEF for bringing Erin to Oak Grove. We do believe with the best education we will reduce the number of victims. Recent information tells us that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually assaulted or abused before they turn 18.
If you have questions, please contact Mr. Fenton, Oak Grove Principal, fenton@ogschool.org

SEL News
Our class is rich with diversity! Even though we may look and act differently on the outside, inside we are all alike. We should always treat people with respect, regardless of their race, nationality, religion or lifestyle, because we are ALL worthy! Look where just this one class is from!

*Please note - any Candy Grams for an elementary student must be sent to a Junior High student for delivery. We aim not to make anyone feel left out.

Oak Grove Rocks ROCKED!
Thank you to all the supporters that came out for Oak Grove Rocks! Our packed house enjoyed tunes from a trio of fantastic bands – thank you so much to the Bradburys, OTR and HenneBerry for sharing your talents and keeping everyone rocking all night. The Foundation would also like to personally thank the Oak Grove parents/staff in the bands – John Goodman (Bradburys), Darrin Fahy (OTR), Phil Chung (OTR) and Dan Henneberry (HenneBerry) – you were all amazing!
Not only was it a fun night, but it was also a philanthropic one! We are still tallying the final numbers, but we were able to raise funds for the Oak Grove School Education Foundation, which focuses on bringing differentiated curriculum to the kids of Oak Grove. Thanks again for all the support and once again proving that Oak Grove ROCKS! You can view pictures at http://www.fuelroom.com/event-albums/this-months-event-pics/facebook-album/10154344637991194
