WHS Principal Post - April 2021
The Monthly Family Newsletter from Dave Danielski
Dear WHS Families,
4 Day Schedule Starts Tuesday, April 6th
As D44 slowly, steadily, and safely brought more kids back to school for more days of the week, we have reached is what is likely the last major schedule change for the year. While some things remain beyond our control, we have made every effort to keep our 4 day a week onsite schedule intact, while hosting some grade levels onsite for specific purposes on Wednesdays.
Safety Protocols
Below you will find some of our health and safety protocols as Hammerschmidt welcomes more kids back for more days:
- Safety will remain our top priority. Mask wearing, social distancing, hand sanitization, and building cleaning will remain constant.
- We will continue to stagger our morning arrival by allowing students to enter the building as they arrive.
- Students will use their assigned doorways for entrance and exiting the building. (Please see the exception below for voting day, Tuesday, April 6th.)
- During lunchtime, students will be spread out a minimum of 6tf. while their masks are off.
Circle Drive Reminders-- DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR, and PULL FORWARD PLEASE
Please have your children enter your vehicle along the PASSENGER SIDE along the sidewalk.
IMPORTANT CHANGES For Tuesday- April 6th:
Hammerschmidt Will be a VOTING LOCATION on Tuesday, April 6th. The WHS All Purpose Room (APR- Cafeteria) will be used by the election officials and the voting public on this day. Door #3 and the APR will be used by them exclusively this day and there will be no student interaction with the voting public. Important changes need to be made to our procedures for ONE DAY ONLY to accommodate our community and honor student safety.
Important changes with arrival, dismissal, and lunch are outlined below. Please note:
Door #3 (The APR Entrance) currently used by Grade 2 will not be used by students on Tuesday, April 6th. Instead, all Grade 2 students will enter the main entrance, Door #1. This will be for Tuesday, April 6th ONLY. Grade 2 students will continue to use Door #3 as their entrance and exit from school after Tuesday’s Election Day.
Lunch will NOT take place in the APR for Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. Instead, Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3 students will have a picnic-style lunch outdoors on TUESDAY, April 6th ONLY. Students are welcome to bring a towel or a small blanket to sit on outside as they eat lunch for the day.
Tents Will be Used for Lunch at WHS
Four commercial-grade tents have been installed on the Hammerschmidt blacktop at the rear of the school. Each tent can accommodate 25 students spread 6ft. apart. These will be primarily used for lunch purposes for our older students during the final 8 weeks of school.
Grade 4 and Grade 5 students to eat lunch under the outdoor tents starting on Thursday, April 8th. Grade 4 and 5 students will eat lunch picnic style in the GYM on Tuesday, April 6th.
Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3 students will eat outdoors on Tuesday, April 6th ONLY. This is because the APR will be used for voting purposes.
Grade 3 students will eat lunch in the GYM starting on Thursday, April 8th. This will be their regular lunch location for the final 8 weeks of school.
Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will return to the APR lunch starting on Thursday, April 8th. This will remain their constant lunch location for the remaining 8 weeks of school.

Please note, some students will be on site SOME of the days for specific periods of time. Additional details will be added after Spring Break. More opportunities may be added as our plans develop!
