Hazelwood Families,
Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to everyone who acknowledged staff last week with notes, cards, and small tokens of appreciation. Your efforts made everyone feel extra loved and special. We are moving into the last weeks of school and teachers have started end of year assessments. We are also starting to think about next fall, forming next year's classes, and putting plans in place for how best to support all of our students. You will see information below for a family survey asking for your input for next year.
Student Pick Up Etiquette Reminder: If you drive and pick your child up from school, please remain in your vehicle and keep moving once your student is buckled in safely. Please save conversations about the day and greeting hugs for when you return home. Please also make sure your student enters your vehicle on the side closest to the sidewalk. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.
Thank you for sending us such amazing students on Zoom and in-person. We are so proud of how hard our students are working and learning.
In partnership,
Mrs. Lee
Sra. Lee
Parent Input For Next Year
We are starting to plan for the 2021-22school year.
As we prepare for the next school year, our goal is to create the best community for learning in each classroom. The classroom community might include students of the same grade level or it may include students at two different grade levels (split grade class). Class placements is a complex task involving the following considerations: academic achievement, behavior and social skills, equity, class size, personalities and learning needs.
Please fill out the Google Form for every child you have enrolled at Hazelwood Elementary between K-5 grade using the link listed below. Google Form responses for every K-5 child in your household should be completed by Friday, May 21st.

Local Underwater Photographer and Filmmaker Launches PLANET OCEAN, Why We All Need A Healthy Ocean Read Planet Ocean with your children and grandchildren to begin the discussion of what humans can do to save our oceans from pollution and acidification. We are all in this together! --Jeff Bridges, Academy Award winning actor and environmentalist Bring awareness to the crisis our ocean is facing and change our relationship with our environment. When we help the ocean, we help ourselves. Planet Ocean is us. PLANET OCEAN, the latest multi-media book by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Annie Crawley and author Patricia Newman, informs readers young and old about the wonders and perils facing the ocean. PLANET OCEAN inspires and encourages readers to use their imagination and take part in solving our ocean’s problems. QR code videos add an interactive storytelling dimension to the book’s text and images to show readers what happens beneath the sea. The book is getting rave reviews, Academy Award winning actor and environmentalist Jeff Bridges said, “Planet Ocean is a beautiful book. It explains the subject material in a beautiful way and the photographs are incredible. A must read with your children.” We’ve all seen the five oceans on world maps, but the maps haven’t been telling us the whole truth. The truth is we have only one ocean and it’s the engine of our existence. Travel with ocean explorer Annie Crawley as your guide to three ocean regions – the Coral Triangle in the South Pacific; the Salish Sea in the Pacific Northwest; and the Arctic at the top of the world—to witness their unique connections to each other and their connections to us. Readers learn about climate change, ocean acidification, pollution, and overfishing. Meet scientists and community leaders from every region speaking up for our ocean. Annie Crawley (aka Ocean Annie) is a local underwater photographer, author, and environmental speaker, living in Edmonds, WA. A member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, she has logged nearly 10,000 dives all over the world. Ocean Annie has documented giant pacific octopus, humpback whales in their birthing grounds, and finds home diving with whale sharks as big as a school bus. She dances with turtles, dolphins, mantas, and a sea of jellies. But she’s also witnessed alarming evidence of ocean pollution and destruction. Annie spent weeks at sea documenting the North Pacific Gyre (more commonly known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch). Her work focuses on documenting and communicating the impacts of ocean pollution, sustainability, and climate change. PLANET OCEAN takes Annie’s message to a new level. Her mission: to change the way the next generation views their relationship with our ocean and gives them tools to protect it.
Clothes For Kids
Clothes For Kids is still open and serving local students by appointment only. Students who have already shopped with Clothes For Kids once this school year can schedule an appointment to shop for a second wardrobe. In May, we will be open for school shopping on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Families need to schedule an appointment for each student shopper: https://clothesforkids.org/book-an-appointment/. The family can fill out the Requisition for Clothing form here at the shop when they come in for their appointments.
If students/families prefer, our volunteers can select clothing for the students and set a time for someone to pick it up at the Clothes For Kids shop (take-out style) within one week. Students will be able to order wardrobes for pick-up through the end of the school year (please see attached Order for Pick-up form).
Clothes For Kids provides free school clothing (including socks, underwear, outerwear, and shoes) to lower-income students.
