The Heart of Haleʻiwa
Ke aka o Haleʻiwa...kupono me ke aloha no ke ahona o ke ao
WE are The Heart of Haleʻiwa
Haleʻiwa Elementary is very excited to introduce "The Heart of Haleʻiwa" -- our new electronic newsletter. With 2021 upon us, we wanted to start the new year with a "new beginning" by reinventing how we reach out to our families. COVID-19 has made it impossible for families to physically be on campus. So we want to use "The Heart of Haleʻiwa" to keep us connected.
"THOH" will celebrate the ESSENCE of Haleʻiwa and all that makes Haleʻiwa Elementary such a special place. It will allow us to show our love and gratitude to those members of our school community that do so much for our school. Above all, it is meant to bring us closer together, when we are forced to be apart.
Every one of us is an essential part of The Heart of Haleʻiwa -- our students, our parents, our extended families, our faculty and staff . During these challenging times, we need to bond together and take care of each other more than ever.
We hope to share our joy and spread our optimism through "The Heart of Haleʻiwa". We hope that you will love "The Heart of Haleʻiwa" as much as we do.
With a grateful heart,
Malaea Wetzel
Principal
Let's meet some members of our "THOH" Team
Cyndy Sumbad - Haleʻiwa PCNC
- I am a grateful kupuna of three "wonder-full" grandchildren (Cobi Blaize - age 20, Fayde - 3, and Sandi - 2). They and their parents are the joy of my life. I also have three four-legged family members: a pitbull named Lucy, and two shitzu/pomeranian mixed-breeds called Buddy Bear and Zoey Sophia. They keep me grounded and are the perfect examples of "unconditional love."
- I love working here at Haleʻiwa Elementary because we share a common vision: to prepare and encourage our children to be the kind of people this world needs.
- My favorite past-time? One word - NETFLIX!

- She lives on a wetland educational taro farm where they focus on sharing the concept of aloha aina and sustainability.
Daily Wellness Checks from Hawaii Keiki
With the recent increase in COVID cases at the beginning of the month, we would like to thank all of our families for being so diligent about monitoring your child's health before sending him/her to school. Hale`iwa also continues to work hard at maintaining all of the necessary health and safety protocols in place to do our best to prevent anyone from becoming ill. We believe that because everyone is working together, we have been very fortunate to keep our campus healthy and safe so far.
Kindness Over Everything
A side-note...In light of recent current events, we at HES couldn't agree more. Ke aka o Haleʻiwa...Kupono me ke aloha no ke ahona o ke ao -- Live life to the fullest with honor, respect, kindness and love to make the world a better place (The Essence of Haleʻiwa). IMUA Haleʻiwa!
