As the weather starts getting a little warmer, we are already thinking about some of our spring activities! Soccer and volleyball practices have started and we are looking forward to melting snowbanks in order to spend time outside at recess soon!

At this time every year we look forward to Reading Week in April. Teachers have been busy planning to make this year's events a memorable celebration of Reading!

Father John V. Doyle School will once again hold a Read-a-Thon starting on April 1st! The Read-a-Thon, which doubles as a fundraiser, is designed to bring students together with family and friends to encourage reading and build literacy skills. More information on how you can support our Read-a-Thon is already available (see below) on our website fjvd.org! The Read-a-Thon will run from April 1 through April 15.

In conjunction with Reading Week, the Scholastic Book Fair kicks off on Wednesday April 3 and will be open during the school day through Friday April 5, with an additional day at the Open House on April 7. Everyone is welcome to stop by and browse through all of the interesting books available!

Grandparents Day will be held on Friday April 5. Father John V. Doyle students will invite their Grandparents (and Grandfriends!) to enjoy a presentation in the gym which will include our music students and the Singing Saints Choir. Following the performances, we will attend First Friday Mass together and then head back to the school for families to have a chance to browse through the Scholastic Book Fair.

Our last Open House of the school year will be held on Sunday April 7, 9am-11am. All families interested in a high-quality Catholic education are encouraged to attend! As mentioned above, the Book Fair will remain open throughout the Open House.

Matt & Aidan (grade 8) will be competing at the State Science Fair March 16-17 at CCRI.

Family and friends are welcome to join us for St. Joseph's Day Mass, Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Saints John & Paul Church at 1 PM.

The Robotics club meets every Thursday morning from 7am-8am.

All students who have already sent in their forms have secured their place in the club!

There are still spots available for students in grades 3-8.

We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up Father John V. Doyle School to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation. We have already received one check for almost $50 with low key promotion. Now it’s time to “kick it up a notch.”

All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.

MaryKate Connolly, the author of Comet Rising, will be visiting our school on 3/28. If you wish to pre-order a book for this special school event, complete and return the form that was sent home with students by 3/26/19. Checks should be made payable to BARRINGTON BOOKS. Please label the envelope 'Barrington Books’. Books will be autographed by the author.

This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser. Our

Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to

encourage reading and to build literacy skills.

The main focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to

improving reading skills. To that end, the Read-a-thon promises to be a fun, exciting

journey for all participants as they begin a personal Reading Adventure that challenges

each reader to complete 10 reading sessions over our 2-week event.

Our Read-a-thon will start April 1, 2019.

Approximately 1 week before we start our first reading session we will send home

paperwork with your reader explaining how you will activate their personal Read-a-thon

page.

You will know that we have distributed the take home sheet because we will also place

a green Read-a-thon bracelet around your child’s wrist as a reminder.

We understand that, as parents, you have high expectations for the quality of your

child’s education but also have limited time.

That’s why we chose to hold a Read-a-thon.

You will find this to be the easiest fundraiser possible. By simply activating your

reader’s personal page and using the promotional tools found there, friends and family

anywhere in the world can show their support for your reader by making a donation to

our Read-a-thon.

Your involvement in the Read-a-thon will help your child develop a lasting love of

reading.

We hope each one of you will activate your child’s personal page the day your child

brings home their paperwork. Hopefully they will be wearing their green bracelet as

well.

The next School Board meeting will be held on Monday, March 18, in the rectory conference room and the Open Session will begin at 6:30pm. Space in the conference room is limited. For seating purposes, please let Mrs. Smith know if you plan on attending. Thank you!
