Sherwood Schools: District Updates
November 20, 2020
Inclement Weather
With the change of seasons upon us, please note that all classes will continue as scheduled during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), even if district facilities are closed in the event of inclement weather. In other words, we will not have “snow days” during CDL. In the event of the closure of facilities, on-site activities and programs -- such as athletics, the Assessment Center, or Limited In-Person Instruction -- will be cancelled, including those scheduled outside of school hours. This includes meal distribution through our on-site food hubs, as well as bus deliveries.
As a reminder, facilities closures will be announced via Flash Alert and School Messenger. For more information on closure communication procedures, including how to subscribe to the Flash Alert system, please visit our website here.
PSAT Update
Due to the closure of our district facilities to use by outside groups, as well as the recent restrictions around indoor activities and events, we will not be hosting the PSAT testing on-site this school year.
Nutrition Services Update
All students in the Sherwood School District are eligible to receive free meals — either at one of our school meal hubs, or for students residing on bus routes, via delivery — through the end of the calendar year. To sign up for meals, please complete the order form here.
Meal hubs are currently located at each of our schools, Monday-Friday 7:30-8:30am and 10:45am-12:30pm (on school days only). Students residing in school walk zones may pick up meals at a school they do not attend if the closest school to them is not their school of attendance. Students who do not live within a walk zone of any Sherwood school will receive their meals via delivery on bus routes. Families receiving bus delivery will be contacted via phone by our Transportation Department with more information.
If you have any questions about bus route meal delivery please contact transportation at 503.825.5900. If you have questions about Meal Hubs please email Kelly Rood at krood@sherwood.k12.or.us or Lazanne Ward Mustain at lwardmustain@sherwood.k12.or.us.
SHARE Center - New Hours and Donation Information
With some of our staff working from home (in response to the most recent guidance from the Governor), the weekly schedule for the SHARE Center has changed. Please note the following schedule going forward:
Monday: by appointment only
Tuesday: by appointment only
Wednesday: open to drop-ins 11am to 3pm (not open November 25)
Thursday: by appointment only
Friday: by appointment only
To schedule an appointment, please call 503-825-5085. Appointments can also be scheduled via email at mquinones@sherwood.k12.or.us or dsticka@sherwood.k12.or.us.
Want to help support families in our community this holiday season? Consider donating to the SHARE Center! Donations of gift cards (Target, Walmart, gas cards, etc.), unopened packages of diapers or baby wipes, canned soups and vegetables, dry foods, and personal hygiene items are accepted at this time. To donate via non-contact, please visit the SHARE Center’s Amazon WishList here (all items shipped directly to their location). At this time, the SHARE Center is not accepting clothing donations, but the Clothing Closet is open to families (by appointment only).
Building Tours
As our bond construction projects around the District come to completion, including both our new high school as well as our Transformations projects, there has been significant interest from staff, students, families, and community members in touring these buildings. Throughout the fall, we have attempted to determine a schedule for these types of tours, but unexpected challenges along the way -- starting with the wildfires at the beginning of the school year, and most recently, the spike in COVID-19 cases in our local area -- have hindered our planning efforts. Given the most recent state guidance around indoor events, we are pausing this planning, and hope to revisit a schedule of building tours early in the 2021 calendar year. Please stay tuned for more information in future communications.
Update on K-12 Athletics Guidance
On Wednesday, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) released new guidance on the impact of the state-wide freeze on K-12 sports. That guidance can be viewed here. Within that guidance, all indoor school sports - including conditioning, training, and competition - are prohibited. Our district previously announced the cancellation of indoor athletics and activities on November 12, so this guidance does not change our current status.
