Creative Conservation
Duck Conservation
Kaiden Sherrill of Har-Ber High School wrote an essay about Arkansas duck conservation efforts and won free duck decoys from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Great work, Kaiden!
Fish Habitats
Har-Ber High School plant science students are partnering with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and NWA Fish Habitat Alliance to grow native aquatic plants in the school's greenhouse. Students will help plant the vegetation in local lakes to improve fish habitats.
Community Partnerships
Nabholz Construction invited a group of Har-Ber High School agriculture students to visit a job site and learn about careers in their company Nov. 13.
"They also fed us a great lunch," said Jonathan Roberts, agriculture teacher and Future Farmers of America advisor. "It was a great experience for these students, and several seniors are interested in submitting a job application!"
Career Exploration
Parent University
The Central Junior High School Family and Consumer Sciences program hosted three Parent University learning events this fall for elementary school students and parents.
Parent University is offered for free and is featured for two hours once a week over the course of three weeks. Participating students and parents are introduced to equipment, basic principles and the different associated careers connected with the topic they're exploring.
"It's just a way for our kids to understand what the opportunities are," said Rodney Ellis, Springdale Public Schools workforce training director.
Upcoming Parent University dates are Jan. 19, Jan. 26 and Feb. 1.
