PSAT Testing
In addition to this communication, QR Codes will be placed around the school building starting Monday, October 10th for students to view their testing locations prior to the testing day. QOHS will run an academic wellness schedule on the day of PSAT testing. An academic wellness schedule supports the priorities of our school system as it pertains to the health and wellness of our students. Running an academic wellness schedule provides an opportunity for students not testing to have wellness time and space to complete other academic assignments including homework, college essays, college applications, projects or study time. Although testing is important and required by our school system the mental health of our students are equally important. Students opting in for academic wellness time are required to report to the auditorium with a charged Chromebook.
If you have any questions about the PSAT contact Mr. Yarborough Assistant Principal at Phillip_A_Yarborough@mcpsmd.org or Ms. Boettcher at Audrey_D_Boettcher@mcpsmd.org. Respectfully, ~PY

Reminder: Testing Accommodations for the College Board Tests (AP, SAT, PSAT)
In order to receive accommodations on these tests, a student must request the accommodations by submitting a Student Eligibility Form. The form must be completed by both parents and school officials and then mailed to the College Board at least seven weeks in advance of the student taking the first test.
The criteria established by the College Board for granting testing accommodations differs
significantly from those used by Montgomery County Public Schools. Students who have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or a 504 Plan are not guaranteed that the College Board will provide accommodations. The College Board requires current neuropsychological testing (within the past three years) which documents the specific need for each requested accommodation. Please contact Mr. Douglas Rivera in the Counseling Office (240-740-3620) in order to obtain the forms and to ask questions about this process.

Hispanics and Latinos are the fastest growing ethnic group in MCPS, with 32 percent of the student population, representing 21 Spanish-speaking countries. MCPS resources to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month are available here. We want all MCPS students, parents, and staff to celebrate with us! Be Sure to Tune In to Mental Health Awareness Week, Oct. 10–15
MCPS and the Montgomery County School Psychologists’ Association will host free virtual events Oct. 10–15 to allow youth and families to hear from mental health experts on issues that are important to them. The process for community input for next year’s school calendar is underway. The survey seeks to gauge the community’s interests as calendar scenarios are developed for the 2023–2024 school year. 3. MCPS Eighth Grade Application for High School Programs to be Released on Friday, Oct. 7
MCPS offers several academic programs to help students achieve their college and career goals. In addition to rigorous college and career readiness programs at their local high school, Grade 8 students may be eligible to apply for regional or countywide programs. The application for eighth-grade students is available in multiple languages in ParentVue. A student eligibility report will also be available in the StudentVue and ParentVue documents folders. In addition, for Grade 9–11 students, the interest form for upper grade college and career readiness part-time programs will be available Friday, Oct. 7, on the MCPS Special Programs website. The deadline to submit interest for both programs is Friday, Nov. 4.
Parents and students are encouraged to attend open houses to learn more. Visit the MCPS Special Programs website for meeting dates and times.
4. Get Smart on Dangerous Internet Challenges
Many youth view or participate in fad challenges circulating on the internet or social media. While some can be considered harmless, silly or entertaining, others involve activities that can lead to significant injury. Common Sense Media and the American Academy of Pediatrics offer helpful advice on why these challenges appeal to kids and how to support them in making safe decisions.
5. Update: Filling Athletic Trainer Positions
There continues to be a shortage of athletic trainers impacting MCPS and school districts across the state. Schools without a full-time athletic trainer receive part-time in-person coverage, as well as other resources and support such as telehealth, coach consulting, injury management and training room office hours. Community members who wish to refer qualified candidates should contact Dr. Jeffrey Sullivan, director of systemwide athletics, or Mrs. Angela McIntosh-Davis, director of procurement. More information is available in the latest R.A.I.S.E. Update and FAQ document.
6. Board of Education Extends Comment Period on Community Involvement Policy
The Montgomery County Board of Education has extended the comment period on proposed amendments to Board Policy ABA, Community Involvement, to update guidelines and practices for engagement related to Board decisions. The policy has been available for comment since March 30, 2022. The public comment period will be open until Friday, Nov. 4.

2022-23 Winter Sports Online Registration
MCPS and Quince Orchard High School are excited to announce that registration for Winter Sports will open on Monday, October 10th at 12pm! Below is information regarding the upcoming Winter Sports season, as well as the registration process. Additional information can be found on the MCPS Athletics website. (Note – tryouts for Winter sports will start on Tuesday, November 15th).
Registration Information
How to Register
Students must be registered by a parent through the MCPS ParentVue Portal. Students must be registered by Sunday, November 13th in order to guarantee that their registration will be processed in time for the first day of tryouts.
Steps for Registering via ParentVue
- Login to MCPS ParentVue Portal
- Locate “Online Registration” in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
- You should then see prompts to enter information for the “2022-2023 HS Athletics Registration – Winter”.
If you see something for “Annual Verification” or “Resume Annual Registration”, please click the “Start Over” button, logout and log back in, this should then allow you to access the Athletic Registration. - The Athletics Registration screens will have you verify information in the system and then allow you to review and complete the Athletics Registration forms.
If any of the information appearing on the “Family” or “Parent/Guardian” information screens is incorrect, please contact the our Registrar at Kristin_A_Barnes@mcpsmd.org to have this corrected before completing your registration.
ParentVue Troubleshooting Information
If a parent is having trouble logging into the MCPS ParentVue Portal:
(MCPS also has a guide to ParentVue for parents here).
- If you have never activated your parent account:
Parents were sent activation information at the beginning of the school year, which included an Activation Key. If you still have this information, use it to activate your parent account. If you do not have the activation information, call the Main Office at Quince Orchard at 240-740-3600 during normal office hours. - Forgot your password? Click on the Forgot Password link on the ParentVue Portal.
- Forgot the email address you used to activate your account? Email Quince Orchard Athletic Director Jeffrey_L_Rabberman@mcpsmd.org. Be sure to include the student name, ID and parent name in the email.
Pre-Participation Physicals
Students should complete their pre-participation physical (MCPS Form SR-8) so that the medical eligibility form (last two pages of SR-8) is ready for online submission or for submission to the coach prior to tryouts/practices. Physicals are valid for one calendar year. A partial list of Clinics that offer Sports Physicals within the Montgomery County area is available online. Physicals can be uploaded by the parent during the registration process. However, if a parent needs to submit a physical after the student has already been registered, email an electronic copy of the completed pre-participation physical (MCPS Form SR-8) to Quince Orchard Athletic Director Jeffrey_L_Rabberman@mcpsmd.org.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the timeline for the start of sports?
Registration will open on October 10th. Tryouts/practices will begin on November 15th for most sports. Tryouts and preseason will continue for three weeks, with the first contests beginning on December 6th.
If a student participated in optional off-season workouts, does the student have to register for the Winter season?
Yes! Registration or participation in off-season workouts does not mean the student is registered for the upcoming Winter season. Any student who would like to participate in this upcoming Winter sports season must be registered by a parent using ParentVue as outlined above.
If a student registered or participated in athletics in the 2021-2022 school year or All-School Conditioning, will the student need to register again for Winter ?
Yes! The registration is only for one sports season. Any student who would like to participate in this upcoming Winter sports season must register using ParentVue as outlined above.
Is there a schedule of games or practices posted yet?
The practice schedule will likely be Mondays through Fridays with Saturday practices and games. The First Day Tryout schedule can be found here. Game schedules are posted on www.countysportszone.com and on our website.
Will there be tryouts, or are all students who register going to be on a roster?
This will depend on the sport and the number of student registrations. Tryout/practice information will be posted and communicated to students and parents, including whether there will be a tryout period to start the season. Similarly, information about where to report for tryouts and what the student needs to bring to tryouts will be communicated to parents and students at that time.
Can a student tryout for more than one sport in the same season?
Parents must declare only one sport per season during the registration process. However, if a student would like to change his/her sport prior to the start of tryouts, the parent must email Quince Orchard Athletic Director Jeffrey_L_Rabberman@mcpsmd.org in advance of tryouts. Similarly, if a student tries out for a sport and does not make the team (or decides to change sports after the tryout date), please have the parent email Quince Orchard Athletic Director Jeffrey_L_Rabberman@mcpsmd.org.
Will transportation be provided for tryouts and practices?
Unfortunately, transportation is not provided to and from tryouts and practices. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation for tryouts and practices. Additionally, students may not remain on campus for extended periods of time before or after tryouts and practices due to supervision policies.
How can I contact a coach if I have a question?
The Quince Orchard coaching staff, as well as contact information can be found on our Athletic Department Staff Directory page.

School Cash On-line (SCO)
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Montgomery County Public Schools has transitioned to a new online payment system called SchoolCash Online as its preferred method of payment for all school-related fees.
SchoolCash Online helps parents/guardians and community members pay school-related fees safely, quickly, and easily. SchoolCash Online will help increase efficiency and security at schools by making payments directly into schools’ bank accounts and eliminating the need for teachers to handle money. In addition, once registered, you will be immediately informed about school activities!
Powered by KEV Group, SchoolCash Online is the industry leader in the management of school fees. The new system puts all of the school-related fees online for purchase so users can make purchases online using a credit card or e-check. A processing fee will be included on all items available for purchase, regardless of the type of payment used on SchoolCash Online or at the school.
Parents/guardians can register now at - https://mcpsmd.schoolcashonline.com/
Parents/guardians received a notification with their student(s) PIN information required for adding a student to their account beginning Monday, August 15, 2022. Communication will be in the form of MCPS email or USPS mailer for those that do not currently have email on file with MCPS.
The MCPS Help Desk has set up a community support dropbox (see below) for community support.
Saturday School Information
Saturday School provides academic tutoring and instruction with certified teachers in a nurturing and supportive environment. The program is aligned with the Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) curriculum.
The fee for the entire year of Saturday School remains the same at $40 for FARMS students and $85 for all others.
Each Saturday morning, we have motivational sessions that focus on mindfulness and wellness within each center. In addition, students will have two additional hours with the MCPS curriculum (Benchmarks and Eureka) for additional support or acceleration. Each center serves the entire cluster of schools, but students have the capability of attending the center of their choice or participating virtually.
