"Wrapping" the First Semester of High School
Parents and Families, can you believe the calendar has already flipped to December? This school year is the fastest one yet, but as the song goes, this truly is the "most wonderful time of the year!"
As we conclude the first semester of high school, we have communicated with students what to expect over the final 10 days of the semester! First, it is very important that students attend school each day. In high school, each course ends with either a Georgia Milestone or Final Exam. These important tests can count for 20% of a student's final grade in that course. It is very difficult to pass a class without passing the Final Exam/Milestone. The final days of the semester are spent reviewing the material that will be covered on the Georgia Milestone or Final Exam. Students who attend school as often as possible are significantly more likely to pass their exam and earn credit in that course.
Secondly, we have stressed the importance of students earning all possible credits this semester. Other than those who are enrolled in yearlong Algebra, students can earn up to 4 credits this semester, and all students can earn up to 8 credits for the entire year. Students who earn 4 credits this semester are almost guaranteed to earn the minimum of 5 credits needed for promotion to 10th grade at HCHS in the fall.
The keys to having a successful 9th grade year are not a hidden secret. In fact, students can take a few small steps that will enable them to make tremendous strides towards high school graduation. Students should attend school each day, attempt all assigned work, complete all available extra credit, and take advantage of each tutoring opportunity provided to them. Students who do these seemingly simple tasks will finish their 9th grade year having earned 8 of the 24 credits required for high school graduation.
These last 10 days of the first semester are so crucial! Together, we can guide the Class of 2027 towards academic success that will carry over to the remaining three and one-half years of high school!

Georgia Dept. of Education Parent Survey
In an effort to create and maintain exceptional schools, the Georgia Department of Education has created a Georgia Parent Survey that is available for all parents and guardians of HNGA students. Survey responses will be anonymous and submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education.
The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.
Your feedback on the survey is greatly appreciated and will be used to ensure HNGA continues to be a high-performing school.
Congratulations to the Chorus program on a beautiful Christmas concert!
