WEbster Nation,
You did NOT let us down! What a Halloween it was. We loved having you all on campus this week for the big day and can't wait for future opportunities to build community as we celebrate the joys of learning and growing together. As we enter 2023's home stretch, let's look out for each other and our students. Let's continue to encourage kindness, patience, and adaptability. We're in this beautiful thing together.
We've got some big events on the horizon and we're going to need your support in order to make them happen. Get in touch with our PTA and pick an activity to sign up for. We'd love to have you on board. https://websterpta.com/volunteer Also, don't forget to check out some awesome Party Book events this weekend for you and the kids.
*Don't forget that Monday, Nov. 6 is a pupil free day!!
Have a wonderful weekend, everybody. Hope to see you tomorrow at the Run Malibu!!!

WHALES RUN THIS WEEKEND!
Well, here we go, folks. Early tomorrow morning, I will don the Webster Whale suit and run the 5K! It should be a super fun event and I really hope that you and/or your kids are running one or more of the Run Malibu events this weekend. I know we have a lot of runners in our community. Some will do the 5K, while others are taking on Sunday's half marathon. From all of us here at Webster, we wish our fellow runners a truly PR-setting weekend! Have a blast and I'll see you there.
Run Malibu welcomes kids ages 4-10 to celebrate, inspire, and support the next generation through the sport of running. This year, we are thrilled to announce the launch of a new kid's event: The Boys and Girls Club of Malibu Mile (The BGCM Mile). Kids' events take place Saturday afternoon on November 4th at the Malibu Beach Expo at Zuma Beach. Entry fees are $30 per race or $45 for both. All racers receive a bib, kids swag bag, entry to the new "Run Malibu x BGCM Kids' Festival", a finisher medal, and, as an added bonus, all profits from the BGCM Mile go back to BGCM. These events are perfect for all kids - from those new to running to those looking to run their best mile yet!

Every day is a busy happy day in TK but Halloween was out of this world! We loved our Rainbow Pumpkin Trunk, bubble bonanza, exploring spooky toys, learning a Monster Mash dance, running under the garden hose, building googly-eyed creatures, and singing lots of Halloween songs! Thank you to our parents for the most amazing lunch, yummy creative treats, freeze dance party, face painting, beautiful decorations, and so much fun! We love you! Thank you for one of the most magical days ever! Lots of joy from TK.
Mrs. Berman and Mrs. Murdock's Kindergarten
The Webster Bu Crew took action this week and created their own Webster Wear. While waiting for a new shipment of Webster Wear in smaller sizes, many kindergarten students used their creative mindset to create their own Webster Wear! Everyone wanted to get involved so this week our class made their own "Webster Bu Crew" t-shirts! Thanks to our amazing kindergarten parents every student had the chance to tie dye their own Webster Wear! Such an amazing and creative group of students!

Fabulous Friday Parents:
Shy Roy (Kiran's dad) taught us about Diwali, which is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. He shared the origin of the holiday and taught us about the festival of lights. He also read us Binny's Diwali by Thrity Umrigar. We had fun making lanterns and Rangolis. Thank you for sharing your culture with us!

Halloween Fun in Room 8!
On Halloween, room 8 did many Halloween themed activities. We played a dice game where we decorated a pumpkin depending on the sum of the dice. They turned out very silly looking. A yummy activity we did was playing tic-tac-o using pumpkin flavored Cheerios. Another silly activity was drawing a picture of a cat exploding out of a pumpkin. The last thing we did was perform a Reader's Theater for the class. We loved practicing the Reader's Theater because we had yummy treats to snack on.
Mr. K's 3rd & 4th Grade
Students designed, generated, and compared multiple solutions to a problem...oh, and they ate some marshmallows as well.
Ms. Johnson's 5th Grade
Hello Room 20 community! I am Andy Kessler, our new class reporter for this month. This week Miss Johnson came back from her trip! Yay! We also learned a lot about motors and how they work in Science, which has been super cool. Next, we had some spooky fun during the Trunk-or-Treat on Halloween. Thank you to all the parents who made that possible! We have also started a fun Social Studies project where we get to create a new state. Thank you for reading and now for our question of the week!
What are you most excited about for our Social Studies Project?
“ I am excited to see how we can build on our plot of land” - Preston G.
“ I am excited to create a tourism empire!” - Miles C.
“ I am most excited to use our Hot Springs!” Janne K.

MYSTERY SOLVED!!
WHAT A DAY!
As I said, you all did NOT disappoint. Thank you so much for the incredible efforts to make Halloween such a blast for our students. From the costumes and class parties to the trunks and incredible decorations, it was a day of sheer awesomeness. I know that young people aren't always great at expressing their appreciation, but I know how much it meant to them to see you all here on campus, dressed up, and helping to make the day so special. On behalf of the staff, I heard nothing but praise for our incredible parents and your energy here on campus Tuesday. I have to say, we've needed a good reason to come together as a community and Halloween was the perfect excuse. My sincere gratitude for you all.
A HUGE Webster thank you to Laura Angotti (Edward Scissorhands), who not only sweated out the day in black leather, but organized such a beautiful event. There are big shoes to fill next year as you move on to middle school.
KEEP CALM AND CARRY THE ONE
Math Club is up and calculating! Our 4th and 5th graders are waking up extra early and flooding into Mr. K's class on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to...eat candy and play video games? That's what you'd think would be the only reason they'd come so early. But NOOO, they are actually getting up early and coming to school because THEY LOVE MATH! Our young Math Olympians are working their brains, collaborating, and solving problems each week in preparation for the big Olympiad in the spring. Try your hand at the problems below. A huge thanks to Mr. K for his dedication to our students.
JOHN WELLS DELIGHTS
Our 3rd-5th grade students were treated to a presentation and reading by award-winning author, John Wells this morning. John has written a YA fantasy series surrounding his main character, Kalib Andrews. In addition to sharing his story of struggling to read and write as a young student, John read a chapter from the The Last Angel Warrior and encouraged our Whales to never give up on their dreams. Students who bought books this morning were lucky enough to grab a signature from John as well. All in all, it was an inspiring morning for our team.
ANOTHER GREAT FRIDAY OF RUNNING
Gearing up for the big race weekend with Run Malibu, the Run Groms finished their first 6-week session this morning. Kids and families have really been enjoying themselves out on the field with Cassidy and Blue as they run, stretch, warm-up, relay, and play other active games on the big yard. We are in conversations to keep this program going in the future and will have more information as we figure out a schedule. Thanks for your support of this inaugural session. Huge thanks to Cassidy Benadum for her energy and enthusiasm in getting the Groms going!!
WHALES ON THE BIG STAGE AT PEPPERDINE
Three of our own Webster thespians: Susannah Safai, J.D. Board, and Lyle Sokoloff, will be performing in Pepperdine University's production of The Music Man, November 10-18. Joining them are recent Webster alums, Starr Safai and Rem Sokoloff. Music director for this amazing production is Webster parent, Ida Nicolosi. The Music Man is a classic musical for the whole family and Pepperdine is pulling out all the stops to make it a dazzling performance. Tickets are available here.

WAIT UNTIL 8TH
The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least 8th grade. By banding together, this will decrease the pressure felt by kids and parents alike over the kids having a smartphone. Please note that this pledge is for smartphones only! If you would like your child to have a basic phone that just calls and texts, you still can sign the pledge! The basic phone avoids many of the distractions and dangers of the smartphone.
Top 5 Reasons To Delay Getting a Smartphone
1 Smartphones are changing childhood.
2 They are distracting and addicting.
3 Smartphones expose your child to...
4 They increase risk for anxiety and depression.
5 Cyberbullying is an important concern.

Developing strong character and valuable mindsets is essential. This remains a major focus at Webster. As we build community here on campus, at home, and across Malibu, we will continue to model the kind of behavior that promotes unity, kindness, and thoughtful problem solving. In addition, we will value these traits in others and recognize outstanding efforts.
Every Friday we sport our Webster Wear to show school spirit and celebrate the coming weekend. Classes with the highest percentage of Webster Wear win the whale for the week. Be sure to show your spirit and pick up some Webster Wear in the main office when you stop in to say hello.
