East Elementary Hosts Veterans Lunch
Air Force Honors OHS JROTC Instructor
Retired 1st Sgt. William Crawford was honored during an Ozark High School Veterans Day Assembly Nov. 9 with the Salutes Plaque, the highest honor a civilian can receive for their outstanding recruiting efforts.
“First Sgt. Crawford's dedication has not only ensured a steady stream of dedicated individuals into our ranks, but it has also enhanced the reputation of the JROTC program at Ozark, " Air Force Staff Sgt. Greg Butler said. “His commitment to shaping the next generation of Air Force leaders is truly commendable.”
OHS Veterans Day Assembly
South Veterans Day Parade
More than 70 veterans representing all branches of service participated in South Elementary’s Second Annual Veterans Day Parade Nov. 10. South students invited family members who are veterans or are actively serving in the military. Veterans were treated to breakfast, before being the highlight of a touching and emotional Veterans Day Parade through the hallways where students waved flags, gave high-fives and passed out thank you cards. The event culminated with an assembly where OHS JROTC presented the colors and fourth graders sang the National Anthem. Army National Guard Chief of Staff Brad Leonard was the guest speaker for the assembly.
“This is such a special time to spend with these special people,” he said after asking students to raise their hands if they had a family member present who is a veteran. “I can’t tell veterans thanks enough.”
Senior Center Veterans Lunch
The Ozark Junior High Grace Notes Choir performed patriotic songs at the Ozark Senior Center Friday for their Veterans Day Lunch. The Ozark High School JROTC also presented the colors. Thank you, Ozark Senior Center, for inviting our students to be a part of your Veterans Day Lunch honoring our veterans!
OJH Veterans Day Assembly
Last week Ozark Junior High celebrated veterans with an awesome assembly! The assembly included a performance of the Armed Forced Medley by OJH Choir students, performances from OHS's JROTC Mountainettes and Mountain Guard Drill teams and a special shoutout to retiring Master Sgt. Nicola Mozingo!
White Table
On Nov. 3, South Elementary fourth graders learned how to set a White Table in honor and remembrance to service members held prisoner of war or missing in action. Each part of the table represents something a soldier and their family may have felt or gone through. Following the presentation of the White Table, James Price with the Ozark VFW answered student questions about the table, the military and veterans.
BUILDING HIGHLIGHTS
Culture Club
On Nov. 2, 17 high school and junior high Ozark Culture Club members went to Convoy of Hope. For a couple of hours, students packaged, counted and sorted hygiene packs to be sent to refugees and baby packs for mothers in need. It was a fun night to help and hang out.
Little Medical School
On Tuesday, 12 West second graders were selected to join Cox Health's Little Medical School! This is a program where a real medical professional spends three sessions with students to teach them about their health and medical safety! This week students learned about the respiratory system and their heart! Thank you Cox Health for investing in the future of medicine here at Ozark West!
East Visits CofO
East second graders took a field trip to College of the Ozarks this week. Some highlights were the museum, the mill, the dairy barn, the greenhouse, and the old schoolhouse!
Veterans Day Surprise
Payton Shelor’s second grade class at South Elementary was patiently waiting for their guest reader to arrive on Nov. 8 when in walked Spc. James Wall with the Army National Guard. Still dressed in uniform, Wall’s first stop after a more than 20 hour flight from Africa was to see his son, second-grader Jax. Surrounded by his classmates, Jax, who is normally quite talkative, was speechless by the surprise.
AR Animals
North first graders had a lot of fun taking AR (Augmented Reality) photos with an animal they're researching in technology class! Find more of these photos on North's Facebook and Instagram pages.
