St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 6 | 16 NOVEMBER 2023
“Our Heavenly Father,
inspire us to distinguish between what is important
and what is not, and open our minds and hearts
that we may always be people of good will
who bring life and joy to others. Amen.”
Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to our Year 3 students who made their First Reconciliation last weekend. This is the first of the three Sacraments that they will make while attending St Columba’s.
Well done to our Year 2 students for their Prayer Service yesterday. It was very reverent, and the students spoke well with the prayers and readings. Many thanks to the Year 2 staff for organising
the Prayer Service. A big thank you also goes to the family members who attended in support of the Year 2 students.
Next Monday is an important day for the Year 5 students who will be making their leadership speeches as the staff, and students from Year 3-6 prepare to vote for our 2024 school leaders. I would like to thank Mrs Crugnale and Mrs Seaber for preparing the students.
Reports will be available online from Wednesday, 6 December.
The Carol’s Night will be on Friday, 1 December on the school bottom oval. It is a requirement that students from PP - Year 6 attend, as each class will be singing a carol. The carol singing for all classes should take approximately an hour. The evening will begin with the Choir singing from 5:45pm and the classes from 6:00pm.
God Bless and keep safe.
Allen McMahon

On Wednesday, 22nd November our current Kindy and Pre-Primary students will have the opportunity to experience the environment and routines of the year level they will be going into for 2024. This is an important part of our school transition process to ensure students are supported as they progress through the Early Years.
St Vinnies Christmas Appeal
The Annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal is about to begin, and St Columba’s Primary School is excited to be involved once again.
What is the Vinnies Christmas Appeal?
For many people, Christmas is a joyful time of year however, the sad reality is that 13.3% of Australians are living in poverty. Of these, 731,300 are children who may not get their Christmas wish. Your support can make a difference.
Our generosity through the Vinnies Christmas Appeal can provide urgent relief for a family who’s doing it tough this Christmas and give them hope for a better future.
How does St Columba’s get involved?
St Columba’s is participating in the Vinnie’s Christmas Appeal. We are looking for families to donate non-perishable food items to the baskets in each classroom, which will be used to make up Christmas hampers for those in need.
Carols Evening – Friday, 1 December
The Carols Night will be held on Friday, 1 December (Week 8) on the school bottom oval. It is a requirement that students from PP - Year 6 attend, as each class will be singing a carol.
Kindy students attending the Carols night will have the option of singing a carol and at the end of their carol will be allowed to sit with their family. The carol singing for all classes should take approximately an hour.
The evening will begin with the Choir singing from 5:45pm and the classes from 6:00pm.
PP- Year 6 students are required to meet their classroom teacher in their classroom at 5:30pm. Kindy students need to meet their class teacher on the bottom oval at this time.
PP – Y6 classes will commence walking down to the bottom oval from 5:40pm.
Students are encouraged to wear a Christmas t-shirt / clothing in the Christmas colours. Christmas headpieces are optional. Footwear must be worn.
Please note, at the end of the Carols, children will be dismissed to families by their class teachers and the school will not be responsible for supervising the students.
WABIAD Competition 2023
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 students involved in the "Write A Book In A Day" competition for this year.
The students sat down as a team and watched the presentation video to find out that St Columba's were awarded 3rd in WA for their book ‘Three Red Rubies’!

Hi everyone,
I am really excited to officially be your President for 2024. Joined by the amazing Gemma, Mat and Renee, we are looking forward to another year in the chair. We have our 2024 planning meeting next week. If you would like to see anything on the P&F agenda next year, please let me know.
I know 2024 seems like a while away, but we have already been busy trying to lock in Term 1 activities so the children don’t miss out on any opportunities. Please keep your eye on the newsletter the next few weeks as we will have a few announcements.
First up though, TERM 1, 2024 before school soccer for Years 1-6! We have seen and felt the passion for soccer amongst the school so we are really excited to be offering this co-curricular option next year.
