Students and teachers agreed on 10 words that describe how they will treat each other this year. After the contract was created, every student and teacher signed a copy of the Social Contract that will be posted in each third grade classroom. Franklin Beats the Heat with Indoor Recess

Due to the extreme heat, Franklin Elementary teachers have had to get creative for students to enjoy their recess time. The heat index has been so high in the afternoons that students have been unable to go outside. Franklin librarian, Missy McCartney, offered for teachers to sign up to use the Maker Space stations from the library for recess. These hands-on STEM inspired activities gave students the opportunity to enjoy unstructured playtime without the scorching heat. Another way Franklin teachers have tried to beat the heat at recess is to adjust recess time to the morning instead of the afternoon.
