STAFF DINNER DONATION SIGN UP - MARCH 7, 2024
This month we’re swapping out our usual Staff Luncheon for grab-and-go box dinners from McAllister’s Deli the afternoon of Open House.
Our teachers work so hard to get everything ready for our parents at open house and most of them hardly have a moment to breathe between the end of the school day and the start of open house. So we’re making sure they all get a bite to eat before welcoming you into their classrooms to show off all the wonderful things your kiddos have been working hard on all year!
We’ll provide the box dinners but we need a little help from our wonderful Prairie Trail community to spoil them with an assortment of their favorite drinks as well as some items to replenish the teacher lounge. Click here to sign up to bring an item or two to give our teachers & staff a full meal during their very long day. If online shopping is preferred, you can shop our Amazon list at HERE. Items needed for the staff luncheon/lounge are noted as “teacher lounge”.
SAVE THE DATE! 2024 SPRING FEST CARNIVAL - FRIDAY, APRIL 12TH FROM 5:30-8:30 PM
If you’ve never attended a Prairie Trail PTA Spring Fest Carnival before, you are in for a major treat! This community event hosted by our PTA features carnival rides (the BIG mechanical kind - it’s a legitimate carnival!), TONS of bounce houses, games, inflatables, food vendors, concessions and more!
Entry is free, but you’ll need a wristband to enjoy the rides & inflatables. Look for more information on how to order wristbands coming home in your students’ backpacks & folders soon!
HELP US RESTOCK THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE!
Our staff lounge supplies are running a bit low and we could use your help to restock some of the essentials that fuel our teachers so they can be at their best all day long. Like coffee, Dr. Pepper, snacks, did we mention coffee? Check out our supply list at www.tinyurl.com/PTEStaffLounge
Items needed for the staff lounge are noted as “teacher lounge” and/or “teacher luncheon”.

Staff Spotlight
Laeticia Edmond - Special Education Teacher
How many years have you been working in education? 10 years
What do you love about working at Prairie Trail? I have been in three different roles at Prairie Trail; paraprofessional, substitute teacher and special education teacher. Since the day I first started I have felt welcomed and supported. The faculty and staff at Prairie Trail are like family, I wouldn't want to work anywhere else. As an added bonus, I love Prairie Trail's competitive winning spirit!
Why did you become a teacher? I became a teacher because my eldest son has autism, and he had an amazing Special Education teacher. Her dedication, support and love for my son set his educational journey off to an amazing start. I want to pay that forward by doing the same for other students and their families.
What's your most prized possession and why? My most prized possession is a wallet that my late grandmother gave me. She wrote a note and put it inside the wallet with information about where It came from. It was once her grandmother's, and is over 125 years old. I will pass it down to my daughter. It isn't something that can be replaced because of its sentimental value.
Paige Gray - Diagnostician
How many years have you been working in education? 14 years
What do you love about working at Prairie Trail? The school community is a supportive and fun environment to work in. After leaving in 2022, I was excited to be placed back 'home' in 2023.
Why did you become an educator? I became an educator after my cousin was born with down syndrome. I wanted to work with kids that many believed were too difficult to work with. Since then I have worked in academic life skills, Specially Designed Instruction, Dyslexia Intervention, general education 3rd/4th grade, and now as a Diagnostician. Each role has prepared me for what I am doing today.
What is something most people don't know about you? I was a foster mom for many years in my single days. I had six newborns and 1 toddler over a period of 4 years. Some stayed several weeks and many stayed nearly a year. I loved it! It was easy to let them into my family, but very hard letting them go.
Lauryn Pewitt - 4th Grade Teacher
How many years have you been teaching? 7 years
Why did you become a teacher? Ever since I was little, being a teacher is all I have ever wanted to be! It brings me joy to watch students grow and accomplish new things. Its a fun, fast paced environment keeps me on my toes. Also, all the time I get to be with family during the holidays and over summer is a major bonus! :)
Why do you love teaching at Prairie Trail? I love teaching at Prairie Trail because I went to this school when I was younger. Getting to be back and serve a community that served me growing up, is something I have always dreamed of. The staff here at Prairie Trail is also amazing! Everyone is so supportive and welcoming!
What's your favorite way to spend a day off? I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 boys. We like to play board games, put together puzzles and watch movies!
Becky Hannah - 1st Grade Teacher
How many years have you been teaching? This is my 22nd year overall and my 21st at Prairie Trail.
What do you love about working at Prairie Trail? I feel privileged to have worked with many incredible educators throughout the years who have provided both inspiration and mentorship. I love my first grade team! I teach the best students and am supported by fantastic families.
Why did you become a teacher? I wanted to be in a helping profession. Alternative certification allowed me to become a special education teacher and it was the best decision.
How do you enjoy spending your alone time? I love spending time with my new grandson. He is precious and adorable and the apple of my eye!
Tiffany Floyd - 5th Grade Teacher
How many years have you been teaching? 13 years
What do you love about working at Prairie Trail? I love my team this year. They are all so encouraging and fun to work with. I also love the fact that I get to see my own kids in the halls throughout my day.
Why did you become a teacher? I became a teacher because I love kids! I love getting to be around them all day building relationships and having fun.😊
What's your favorite way to spend a day off? My favorite way to spend a day off is hanging out with Tyler and the kids. It doesn’t really matter what we’re doing I just enjoy our little family.
