Hello Schluter Families!


What a great week it was! Today was our PTA Boosterthon Fun Run, and the kids had an amazing time! Shout out to our teachers, staff, and PTA board and volunteers for pivoting when the weather did not cooperate with us, and we had to transition the fun run indoors quickly. Despite the change, the kids loved it, and did a great job! Thank you PTA for always showing your support and raising money to make Schluter better! Boosterthon is keeping pledging open for one more week, so if you feel led, please consider donating! This is PTA's one fundraiser for the year, and we are excited that they want to be able to purchase a shade structure for the playground areas!


Next week is Multicultural Night on Tuesday! We are thrilled to add many of our families hosting a table to help us learn about their cultures. Come and check it out, and we hope to see you there!


Next Friday is also Northwest Reads, and we still need volunteers! Check out the graphic below for more information.

Join us for food, showcased crafts/souvenirs, and entertainment as we take a trip around the world and discover the many different cultures and countries that represent our students, families, and faculty here at Schluter Elementary. We would like to have as many families as possible to sponsor a booth/table representing your family’s native country and/or cultural background. Your table can include food, items from your country, and/or an informative display. We would also love for you and your student(s) to wear clothing that represents your culture.

Show our Spurs the importance of reading by taking part in Northwest Reads! Elementary schools are welcoming guest readers across Northwest ISD on Friday, March 3, as part of the annual event. Participants will choose from a variety of books to read to pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students at one of the district's 20 elementary schools. The program provides community members with an opportunity to inspire district students to become lifelong readers. To become a volunteer reader, visit www.nisdtx.org/northwestreads.

Reminder: Spring break takes place March 13-21 for students

As a reminder, Northwest ISD students will have spring break from March 13 to 21 before resuming classes on Wednesday, March 22. Additionally, on the Friday before spring break, March 10, all schools will operate on early-release schedules.

NISD Grow Our Home - Pathways to Teacher Certification

Northwest ISD’s “Grow Our Home” program focuses on providing our current staff, former students, and community members with pathways to earning a teaching certification and becoming a full-time teacher in NISD! On Tuesday, February 28, we will be hosting our second informational meeting of the Spring for current staff and community members to learn more about the pathways available to becoming a certified teacher. If you are interested in learning more about the opportunity to gain your teaching certification, we invite you to join us on February 28 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the Central Administration building. Bond election called to meet record-setting growth

As Northwest ISD faces record-setting student enrollment growth, the district’s school board has unanimously voted to call a bond referendum that would build 12 new schools and additional facilities. The proposed projects all originate from the work of the community-led Long-Range Planning Committee, which proposed the package to make room for more than 8,400 new students.

With the board’s approval, the referendum will now appear before voters on May 6 for consideration. Voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots on three propositions: new schools and educational facility updates ($1,672,193,000), new high school stadiums and updates to existing stadiums ($301,555,000), and technology devices ($21,752,000). While the total amount of the bond referendum across all three propositions is roughly $1.995 billion, voters will not see that figure and will only see the monetary amount as divided into each proposition. Did you know that Northwest ISD offers a telehealth service for students? In addition to on-campus nurses, our district offers SchoolMed telehealth services for additional services. Parents and guardians can join a telehealth call without having to leave their place of work to support their students. For more information, view this page.

    • 2023 Northwest ISD Family Survey (Spanish Link)
    • Provide your input about our school and Northwest ISD through the district’s Family Survey! This survey will remain open through noon Monday, February 27, and families are encouraged to let us know what you feel is working and where you think we can improve. The survey will be available at www.nisdtx.org/survey or www.nisdtx.org/spanishsurvey for the Spanish-translated version. Thank you for your feedback and assisting the continuous improvement of our school!

Register to vote in May election

Are you registered to vote in the May 2023 elections? If not, you have until April 6 to register! Texas residents can register to vote at www.votetexas.gov. Northwest ISD will hold a bond election with three propositions as well as a school board election with three positions on the ballot. Be sure to check your local municipalities for any other local elections!

Roanoke Public Library offering free cards to all NISD students, staff

The Roanoke Public Library now offers free library cards to all Northwest ISD students and staff enrolled or working at any district campus. No guardian signatures are required for students 16 years of age or older who apply for a card. Cards must be renewed by October 1 annually. Attendance boundaries set for 2023-2024 school year

Following school board approval, attendance boundaries are now set for the 2023-2024 school year. Families of any school affected by boundary changes received direct communication during the process, while families schools unaffected by boundary changes were left off this communication to avoid any confusion. To read about the boundary changes, view this news article. Additionally, families can input their address with the interactive school zone locator to verify their schools next year.

School times changing in 2023-2024, slight calendar tweaks

Please be aware that school start and dismissal times will change at the secondary level during the 2023-2024 school year (not this school year!). These changes will provide more time between school days at middle and high schools, which will improve traffic flow across the district. Additionally, Election Day will now be a district holiday, moving the final day of school back. For more information, read this news article.

Too many ParentSquare notifications? Change your preferences!

Do you feel like you’re getting too many texts or emails from ParentSquare? Just want notifications in the ParentSquare app? Change your communications preference to meet how you want to receive messages!

Families in Northwest ISD have full control of how they receive ParentSquare messages. To change your settings, sign in on the ParentSquare website and hover over your profile’s name in the top right corner to select “My Account.” From there, click “Notification Settings” on the left sidebar and turn on or off any message format (email, text and app) and whether you receive notifications instantly or each evening (in the “digest” option).

Set your language preference in ParentSquare

Did you know ParentSquare provides families with the ability to set their preferred language? If the primary language in your household is not English, you can change the settings to receive all ParentSquare communication (include messages, emails, texts and more) to whatever language you prefer. This provides machine-translated posts and messages requiring no work on either you or your campus! Read how to change this setting in this how-to article.

Need afterschool care for your student? Check out Alphabest! Students would stay at Schluter under the supervision of Alphabest.

Reminder: Use MyShoolBucks for school meal accounts

Northwest ISD uses MySchoolBucks for meal accounts, and families can actively monitor their students’ available money or add funds to their accounts by visiting www.myschoolbucks.com.

Free or reduced-priced meals now require 2022-2023 application

For students who meet federal requirements, school meals may be provided free or at a reduced cost. To receive this benefit, a student's parent or guardian must fill out the free or reduced-cost meal application and be granted admission into the program. While students in the program receive the same benefits briefly at the start of the following school year, the application must be completed annually to continue receiving the program's benefits. For any student who received benefits from the free or reduced-priced meal program in 2021-2022 but has not yet applied and been granted its benefits for the current school year, regular costs are now in effect.

In order for benefits to continue, an application must be completed and returned and free or reduced-price meals will continue to be provided, if the student qualifies. The application can be completed at this link. Paper applications are also available at all Northwest ISD campuses. Consider joining our team following an increase to paraprofessional pay!

Northwest ISD paraprofessionals are receiving an increase in their starting pay following unanimous approval by the school board! Beginning immediately, Beginning with this week’s paycheck, the minimum wage for an hourly Northwest ISD paraprofessional staff member will increase from $12.50 to $15 per hour. Additionally, the minimum wage for bus monitors will increase to $14 per hour.
