Message from the Principal
Happy Friday Findley Families!
I don’t know about you, but January felt like the longest month ever. I’m am happy that we have moved on to February and are getting closer and closer to spring each day.
Our English Language Proficiency Assessment administration starts next week. As a reminder, if you student has been identified as an English Language Learner, they will be taking this assessment. Students will be bringing home more information about specific days and times they will be tested.
Our general PTO meeting has been rescheduled this month. The meeting previously scheduled for February 10 at 7 PM will now be February 20 at 7 PM. This is to accommodate our guest speaker, Steven Sparks, BSD’s executive admin for facilities and planning. Currently, Mr. Sparks is leading the work of the Middle School Boundary Adjustment Committee. We are fortunate to have him come to speak with our school community about this process and its potential impact to our families.
We have a lot coming up in the next few month and half before spring break including our annual book fair, Bingo Night and the Science Fair. For event dates, please see the rest of this newsletter.
Have a great weekend,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
OBOB CORNER
This week’s battles have been very exciting!!! The top 80% of the teams are now battling in the Competitive Round, where they can steal answers and accumulate more points. These rounds will end on Wednesday February 12th and the top 16 teams will go onto the Elimination Rounds. Elimination Rounds are based on the total points earned during the Competitive Rounds.
The Elimination Rounds will take place the week of February 24th: we will battle the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Fabulous Four and the Championship Battle. If your child’s team makes it this far please come in and support them.
Our OBOB Program had approximately 60 teams involved this year, so making it to the top sixteen is quite an accomplishment! The Regional Battle is scheduled for Saturday March 14th, at Tom McCall Elementary school in Forest Grove.
We are still in need of volunteers for some of our upcoming battles Monday, February 10th & Wednesday February 12th. Please check the PTO volunteer calendar to help out, Volunteer. We will be posting the Elimination Battle Teams and schedule by Friday, February 14th. Congratulations to all the teams who participated this year and help to make this a fantastic and successful program. Go Dragon Readers!!!

Mark Your Calendar!!! Findley Science Fair is March 11th
We Need Exhibitors from Intel and Nike!!!
Work at Intel? We would love to have a fab bunny suit from Intel. This exhibitor table is always one of the students favorite.
Work at Nike? We are looking for a Nike parent who can bring different types of Nike shoe soles for an exhibitor table. We are not asking for technology that's still in wraps, anything that is already out in the market would be fine!
Science Fair committee can arrange for volunteers to help out these parents at their respective tables!!
Please email – mitra.poulami@gmail.com with any exhibitor information.
Findley Book Fair is coming February 28th!
The Spring 2020 Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Findley! This year's Jungle themed book fair will be Feb 28 - March 5. It will be held in a new location, Room 201, with ample space to showcase the hundreds of fun, engaging, and affordable books for your family to discover. Please support our book fair as proceeds from the fair benefit Findley.
This year, we will offer the eWallet digital payment option. This convenient cashless option allows parents to set up an account through Scholastic with a credit card. Parents set a spending limit for their child(ren) for use at the book fair, and unused funds are released back to the credit card at the end of the fair. To encourage participation in the eWallet option, every student who has an account will have their name entered into drawings for great prizes (books and posters).
Use this link to visit our homepage filled with great information including an interactive book flyer, book fair schedule, online shopping, and a link to sign up for eWallet. https://www.scholastic.com/bf/findleyelementaryschool
