Weekly Bulletin 2.5
2023~2024 SY CHAPTER 2.5
Thankful: 1. The state of being happy or grateful for something. 2. Please and relieved. Though the historical context behind the upcoming holiday gives cause for alarm, this season still brings up opportunity for reflection and thankfulness. Not only is it a national holiday of thanksgiving, but the calendar year is also coming to a close, leaving space for a snapshot/review of all the events that have occurred. Recently, our staff participated in our first official restorative practice training. A staff member gave a reflection of an event, (a not so favorable one), where harm was done. When asked about repair, she suggested that the year be put in our rear-view mirror, (paraphrase). It took me back to the incident that she referred to, (which was followed by a string of incidents), and that was not the best of times.
In retrospect, considering the nature of what she referenced, I couldn't help but take note of the campus was able to push past it & keep showing up for our students. I'm thankful for that. During that same training, our guest trainer made mention of the core values that are posted all over our building. I'm thankful that as a first time visitor, she noticed. In hearing her make reference to those values, I'm able to look at a few of them, (relationships in particular), and clearly note that many students have at least one staff member who they have a trusting relationship with. That is a value that is alive in our school. There are even a few students who some would expect the least from that I look at and still see the potential for the best. I'm thankful for that as well. There are students who are not afraid to advocate for themselves, their classmates, and their rights to an education. We have students who will do the right thing, even when peer pressure would tempt them to do the wrong things. I'm thankful for that. There are teachers here who will do whatever it takes to meet the needs of our students. There are also teachers here who have high expectations of students and won't bring that bar down for the sake of apathy. I'm super thankful for that. There are also staff members here who readily stand in the gap for their colleagues whenever the need arises. I'm thankful for that as well. Our kitchen staff roles that cart out every day to make sure that our students have food to eat. Our Interim custodian gets it done anytime a concern is brought to him. We should all be thankful for that. As 2023 begins to wind to a close, I challenge everyone to list the things that you are thankful for & use them as a springboard to go into 2024. Happy Thanksgiving Mighty Rebels. I'm thankful for you all. Enjoy this short week.
In service of our scholars,
Brian Evans, Principal

Procedure reminders
- Seek approval for field trips from the principal, (in writing), before scheduling any field trips. Include the Mrs. Sprinkle & Mr. Chunn in the email so they can add it to the events & field trips calendar should the field trip be approved.
- Admit students into your classroom until 8:15 before requiring a pass, after 8:15, all late arrivals must sign-in at the planning center.
- Refrain from issuing hall passes the first 10 and the last 10 minutes of class.
- Refrain from "replying all" to mass emails, as it pushes important information down the thread, (potentially causing it to be missed).
- Review the assessment calendar & make sure that you issue a diagnostic (pre-test), mid-term & final in all classes. These assessments should always access a priority-standard.
- Only permit students in your class who are on your roster for that period, (unless you are covering a class). This includes advisory.
- Use all 46 instructional minutes for instruction. Students should not be idle at any time during the period. Prepare critical thinking task for those who master the concepts, and interventions for those who do not.
- Apply the knowledge gained from PDI into your everyday practices.
