Miller Elementary Weekly Update
September 10, 2022
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend and you are gearing up for another wonderful week ahead! There might be a little rain coming our way, but I hope these warm days continue for a few more weeks!
Can you see from the photo above that school picture day is coming? We have been practicing our smiles at school and our big day is this Thursday, September 15th! This photo was captured on a nature walk this past week when we took our learning outside. Miller and Leighton are lucky to have a nature path and outdoor classroom that we get to use all year long. One perk of this combined space is seeing your sibling during the school day!
With picture day upon us, we want to reassure you that we help all children feel comfortable in front of the camera. We will help to fix their hair, adjust any outfits or capture that perfect smile. If your child has PE on Thursday, please pack their tennis shoes so they can make a change sometime during the day. Purchasing a photo package is not required, however, you can order pictures online to avoid any paperwork sent to school. Your order needs to be placed prior to our picture day so that Riphco Studios knows your preference of background color and the specific package. You can also use the envelope that was sent home this week to select a package and send in any money to complete the purchase. If you have any questions about picture day, please feel free to reach out to us, or Ripcho Studios.
We have one final reminder to all families about attendance, late arrival, or early pick-ups. Please make sure you call the Miller Office at 330-562-6199 if your child will be absent, late or you need to change their pick-up for the day. This is especially important if your child will be late and needs to order a school lunch for the day. You can leave a detailed message so we have all the necessary information. Also at times, we may have staff absences and we want to make sure we have all communication coming into the school and not just sent to your child's teacher. Thank you for your diligence with this matter!
Have a wonderful Sunday!

We ask that you call Miller School at 330-562-6199 to either speak with Vicki Wolf or leave a message. Please share your child's first name, last name, teacher, and the reason for the absence. If they are going to an appointment, please ask for a doctor's note to have on file here at school. Thank you!
If your family will have a planned absence due to an event or vacation, you will need to fill out a planned absence form for our schools. Please send in a note requesting this form as soon as you know your anticipated date.
If your child is experiencing COVID-related symptoms and you have questions for our school nurse, Jackie Pawlowski, you may call 330-954-2286. She can help answer any questions.
School Wide PBIS Skill of the Week
Developmentally, children at Miller want to play, explore and socialize with their classmates and teachers. Shifting from playtime to active listening and learning time will take practice. You can see below how we explicitly teach what active listening looks like and feels like during learning times. You can practice "Ready to Learn" choices at home when you help your child practice letters, counting, writing their name, or even playing a game as a family. Using the language, "Let's have a quiet mouth when others are talking," will help your child develop skills to understand that everyone has a voice that we value and respect.
Important Updates from our Superintendent Mike Roberto
School Nurse: Jackie Pawlowski
- Check your child each day for illness symptoms. If they begin to feel ill, please know she will assess your child and make contact with a family member when necessary.
- Students sent home with a fever, may not return to school until they are fever free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school will be calling for you to come and pick him/her up. Please help to support our efforts in this area.
- Please make sure your Final Forms medical information is up to date. We will closely read the health sections to address any medical concerns.

School Counselor Update from Mrs. Ambrosia
Hello Families! I hope this portion of the newsletter reaches you while enjoying the beginning of a wonderful long weekend. I am so proud of all of the students transitioning so nicely into their respective classroom routines. Students are showing that they recognize our school expectations of being respectful, responsible and problem-solvers. They’re feeling comfortable in their caring and welcoming classrooms and understand the adults that can help at any moment.
Over the course of the last few weeks, I have recognized that there are needs that arise from time to time at home where students may benefit from community support outside of school in addition to the support provided during the school day, such as outside counseling. I wanted to be proactive in sharing a community resource guide here: Community Resources.
In addition, courtesy of the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio, the following information is about the 998 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Though we wish we never have to use such a resource, it is there should we need it.
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
The Lifeline’s network of over 200 crisis centers has been in operation since 2005, and has been proven to be effective. It’s the counselors at these local crisis centers who answer the contacts the Lifeline receives every day. Numerous studies have shown that callers feel less suicidal, less depressed, less overwhelmed and more hopeful after speaking with a Lifeline counselor.
