Principal's Thoughts
Dear Page Hilltop Families:
Sunday, March 20th will mark the official first calendar day of spring. I was so happy to enjoy spring-like weather last Thursday and Friday. We know that the temperatures will still fluctuate up and down. Hopefully (with apologies to all you skiing enthusiasts) we will not experience any more snowstorms. I find that the coming of spring does well for the body and soul. Warmer sunlight fills us with vitamin D and feels good.
It seems like it was so very long ago that we declared third grader Teaghan B, as the winner of the "1st snowfall challenge". We will soon be declaring two more winning students: one student for picking the last day that there is any snow left on the school grounds and one student who correctly forecasted how many total inches of snow we received this winter. I have all your entries ready for review - stay tuned!
Thanks, as always, for sharing your children with us!

SPRING RECESS
- Students should always be prepared for changing weather. Even if it predicts to be a warm day, it doesn't hurt to have a light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt with them in case the temperatures cool off during the day.
- Students are to follow basic guidelines for safe play at all times.
- We are an all-inclusive school and no child should ever be excluded from any group game.
- If a child chooses to bring their own ball, etc. to recess, they should be prepared to share it with other students.
- We have been reminding students of the "Whistle Rules":
- At the conclusion of the recess period, they will hear a SINGLE whistle blast. At this time all children should stop playing and freeze.
- A few seconds later they will hear a SECOND whistle blast. At this time they walk safely into line.

FROM OUR DISTRICT SOCIAL WORKER...
As we begin to have more daylight and warmer weather, I’d like to share some ideas and resources to encourage your kids to get outside. The benefits are endless, and include improved motor skills, cognitive, social and emotional development, as well as improving sleep challenges! What caregiver doesn’t want their child to have a better night’s sleep?!?!?
During the continuing challenges we’re facing due to the pandemic and our political climate, I also want to extend some resources provided by our Assistant Superintendent, Charlie Caliri. Conversations around the events occurring between Ukraine and Russia might be hard for elementary-aged students to understand and make sense of. I hope these resources can serve as a guide for those who wish to engage in a family dialogue.
