Greetings, Galena Park I.S.D. Parents and Guardians,

This week's message is at once triumphant and melancholy: the end of the 2019-2020 school year is in sight. Please stay tuned to the official Galena Park I.S.D. website and social media platforms for end-of-school-year information, such as turning in school-owned books and electronic equipment to your schools.

We are planning to celebrate virtually our Graduation Ceremonies for the Class of 2020: this evening for the Accelerated Center for Education (ACE), and on May 31 for CTE Early College High School, Galena Park High School, and North Shore Senior High School. I hope you will join us to view these events and celebrate our graduates!

I hope you all remain healthy and productive as Texas transitions to the re-opening of our great state in incremental phases. I also hope you all remain cautious, to avoid exposure to the COVID-19 virus, after all we have done to remain as healthy as possible throughout these challenging times.

As always, I appreciate your support and patience throughout the entire school year, and especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward with great excitement and anticipation to the day we can all gather safely again.

District officials have been working diligently to celebrate the Class of 2020 with traditional graduation ceremonies. If it is safe to gather, based on local, state, and/or national guidelines, traditional graduation ceremonies for the CTE Early College High School, Galena Park High School, and North Shore Senior High School will be held at NRG Stadium on August 2, 2020.

Please note: Subject to change, based on local, state, or national guidelines and/or governmental orders in effect.

As the days of the Stay Home, Work Safe order have become weeks, it has become more and more necessary to practice self-care to maintain a positive mood and mindset. Consider the following:

• Eliminate stressors. Examine what you have to do and see if there are stressors you can eliminate.
• Adjust your expectations. We are all going to have to do that over and over again as the crisis continues to unfold.
• Whatever you’re doing for others is enough. Although none of us alone can do enough to make the difference, together we are all doing enough to make a difference.

Galena Park I.S.D. offers a limited enrollment Pre-K 3-Year-Old Program for eligible students. Students much meet the State of Texas eligibility requirements to qualify for programs.

Let's talk about the 2020 Census!

The census is an enumeration, or an actual count, of the people in the United States to ensure fair representation.

Did you know the Census has only nine questions? The survey takes only 5-10 minutes to complete. It's easy!

You can do your part for the 2020 Census by completing the survey.

Emily Sanchez, Galena Park High School student, has been recognized with an Honorable Mention award in this year's 'Society for the Performing Arts 22nd Annual Wells Fargo Student Art Contest.'
With over 500 entries across six divisions, GPISD is very proud of Emily's achievement!

Congratulations to Emily Sanchez and her art teacher, Wesley Frey, on this prestigious honor.

Jade Delgadillo, North Shore Middle School student, won a Gold Key in the Regional Scholastic Writing Contest and also won a silver medal in the National Contest!

More than 110,000 students submitted nearly 320,000 works of art and writing.

Congratulations, Jade! We are very proud of you. ‬

Curbside breakfasts and lunches will be distributed only three days per week, with multiple meals being provided at each distribution.

Meals will be distributed at the same sites, but only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Limited Open Enrollment (LOE) - Allows children who do not live within Galena Park ISD's boundaries to apply for enrollment in Galena Park ISD schools (except closed campuses).

Special Request - A parent of a Galena Park ISD student may submit a Special Request Transfer for their child/children to transfer from a zoned campus to a campus of their choice (except closed campuses). Special request transfers will only be considered during a designated time period for academic, safety and special program reasons.

Please note, this is an automated line.

The GPISD Technology Department will provide support to students Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The Technical Support offered is to assist students with accessing District resources; the support is not provided as technical support for personal hardware.
