MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT

Dear PUSD Community,


It’s now our third week of school and between the first days of school, hurricanes, and earthquakes, so much has been happening!

I hope that students are settling well into the school year and renewing or starting new friendships. Fall high school athletics are in full swing, including volleyball, water polo, cheer, football, golf, and tennis.

Back to School nights continue this week and I hope that you can attend and meet the amazing teachers, administrators, employees, and families of PUSD.

MORE BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHTS THIS WEEK

More back to school nights are scheduled this week. Back-to-School Nights are a great chance to meet teachers, principals, and other school staff, visit classrooms, and connect with other parents/caregivers. Whether your child is at the beginning of their educational journey or in their final year of high school, attending Back to School nights gives us all a chance to reconnect and plan for the year ahead. SHOWING UP MATTERS FOR R.E.A.L.

Showing up at school on time every day is especially important for children in preschool, transitional kindergarten, and kindergarten. Missing just one or two days every few weeks (that’s 10% of the school year!) makes it harder for young children to learn important early reading and math skills, build relationships, and develop good attendance habits. We know from our own experiences that getting young children (and ‘tweens and teens!) to school on time every day can be challenging. MEET MADDIE THE EAGLE

Students at Madison Elementary got a special visit from Maddie the Eagle, the school’s mascot, during assembly last week. Tell us about your PUSD school mascot at communications@pusd.us.

PTA COUNCIL SUMMIT

The PTA Council of PUSD held a Leadership Summit at Octavia E. Butler Magnet. The Council is organized under the authority of California State PTA for the purpose of collaboration, leadership, training and coordination of all member units.

VOLUNTEER FOR MATH POWER HOUR

Math Power Hour is looking for volunteers to help first and second grade students get a firm understanding of early math concepts and foster confidence and a positive attitude towards math. Math Power Hour was created by the African-American Parent Council of PUSD in conjunction with the Pasadena Unified School District, the United Teachers of Pasadena, Reading Partners, and Pacific Oaks College. DISCOVER DREAM CONNECT

Join us at Discover Dream Connect, a series of fun and interactive workshops to build a connected and engaged community to serve children with disabilities. Hosted by PUSD’s Special Education department, the workshop is open for students, parents/caregivers, employees, and community members. BOOKS AND MORE

The Pasadena Public Library has much more than books to help students start the 2023-24 school year off right. Free resources at 10 library branches really stack up and include: computer and Wi-Fi access; microscope slides, models, maps, and more for check-out; homework help/tutoring programs; and online resources available 24/7 through their website, https://www.CityOfPasadena.Net/Library.
