FCCLA advisors Kahale Ahina, Janine Sather recognized with state award
Bonney Lake High School’s Kahale Ahina and Sumner High School's Janine Sather was recognized with an award at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Wenatchee last month.
Sather and Ahina were both awarded the Master Adviser Award for leadership and dedication to FCCLA.
Sather is a co-advisor for Sumner High School FCCLA and has many students compete at the regional, state and national levels. Her chapter has taught lessons to over 2,000 community members and had FCCLA member work in the construction trades class "Tiny House" project to make blankets, curtains and other items for donation.
She is described as "a pillar in our region and state" and always leads by example.
Ahina has been an FCCLA adviser for 21 years and is currently an adviser at Bonney Lake High School. He also leads the BLHS culinary arts team.
Washington State FCCLA posted about the award on Facebook, recognizing Ahina’s ability to form community partnerships, like with our local Bonney Lake Food Bank.
“One of the things that makes Mr. Ahina stand out in a crowd because of his community involvement. He gives his students real life experiences through catering numerous events, community Chef Dinners, and bringing in parents to judge class cooking demonstrations,” stated the post.
“Mr. Ahina sets a positive example for all of us on how to be a leader and positive role model through his hard work and service to the community. He truly deserves this Master Adviser award.”
Congratulations!
