Colton Hills School Bulletin
14 December 2023
High Performance Learning School
Introduction by Mrs K Fox, Assistant Headteacher
Personal development is flourishing at Colton Hills, there are so many opportunities for your child to get involved in as a result of time voluntarily given by the staff. Our events and opportunities are advertised in the bulletin and our social media pages, so you can keep up to date with what has taken place and upcoming events. Some of these include cadets, sporting fixtures, theatre trips, art gallery trips, school productions, charity events and activities, interhouse competitions, residentials trips and much more.
Careers events including trips to universities, interviews with employers, the careers festival have featured this half term. Next term Year 10s will be taking on their work placement to have an invaluable opportunity to experience the world of work. We truly believe in exposing students to the world of work and further education opportunities as much as possible to show them what they can access when they leave school. More information on the careers programme can be found on our school website www.coltonhills.co.uk/careers, so you can see what exciting opportunities are available for your child.
We now have 22 student unions at school, is your child part of one? Ask them what they have done as part of their union? We strongly believe in democracy at school and listening to our students to make school the best experience for them so they are happy and safe, which will ultimately lead to them being academically successful. The Year Council and School Council meet every term, this is a great way for your child to pass on their concerns so they can be discussed and taken to the Senior Leadership Team.
All of these opportunities are key to building character and developing High Performance Learning skills so they become a well rounded citizen and develop their knowledge of the world outside of their academic studies. We track this through our PRIDE AWARD, which students log in their planners and are awarded in assembly when they have completed a set number to recognise that they have gone above and beyond their studies. Check your child’s planner with them to see what they have achieved this term and discuss what they aim to achieve next term.
I hope this has given you an insight into the opportunities available, your child is welcome to join in at any time. I would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your family a restful break and we look forward to seeing you in the new year! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
