*SMCPS Calendar Updates

SMCPS Calendar Updates: The Board of Education and MSDE have approved the amended 2023-2024 SMCPS Calendar. The new calendar is posted online at www.smcps.org/calendar

The Amended calendar includes two virtual instruction days:

Monday, October 9: Asynchronous day: parent conferences/ early dismissal
Friday, March 22: Synchronous day: End of 3rd Marking period/ early dismissal

In addition, due to the change in the Primary Election Day, May 14 is a required school holiday. There will be no school for students on May 14. May 14 will remain a staff duty day.

As a result of the required school holiday, the last day of school will be moved and June 13 will be the last day of school for students. Students will have a two-hour early dismissal on June 12 and 13.

LMDES Limited Renovation

The SMCPS Board of Education approved the contract for construction with Scheibel Construction during the June 21, 2023 BOE Meeting. The final step is for the IAC (State) to approve the contract. That meeting is scheduled for August 10 so we anticipate construction activities will begin on August 11.

Kindergarten Registration - Open registration for students who will be five years old by September 1, 2023 continues throughout the summer.

SMCPS Registration Information

Required documents include:

Proof of residence
Evidence of Birth
Immunization Record
Court papers regarding custody (if applicable)
Photo ID of parent/guardian

Out-of-District Transfer Requests

In order to attend LMDES, valid proof of residence must be provided
If you do not reside within LMDES district boundaries, you must submit a transfer request (annually). This does not guarantee placement.

Pre-Kindergarten Application

St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) offers full-day Pre-kindergarten 4 to children who reside in St. Mary’s County Maryland; meet age requirements; and are income eligible.

A child must be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2023.
All Pre-Kindergarten classes for 4-year-olds are full day.
A family must verify their annual income is at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Families that are at 185% FPL will be served first.
Income verification is required of every applicant
