Washington County Schools will be offering multiple Summer Camps this year (Summer 2021) and would like to survey families across the district who would like to be a part of this new adventure. The camps will be designed to support student academic needs and student learning loss.

Since this program is being supported through state funding, University School students going into K-8 grade may participate. The program begins will begin June 1st. The new school year will begin on July 7 for University School, so any student participating may only do so for the first 4 weeks. Although University School will not be a host site, families may choose to attend any of the other designated Washington County School sites but may be required to provide their own transportation.

Please see the details below and fill out the following survey (students must be currently enrolled in Washington County Schools including University School) if you are interested in possibly having your rising K-8th grader(s) attend one of these programs.

The face covering policy for University School and East Tennessee State University is still in effect for all campus visitors, faculty and staff. This includes attendance at any school sponsored events and activities.

It is finally that time of the year to order the 2020/2021 school yearbooks. Due to our altered schedule, we are a little behind in getting this up and running, but we are now ready to accept orders. The deadline for placing a yearbook order is April 12.

There is no price increase for the yearbooks this year. The elementary/middle school yearbook is $28.00 while the high school yearbook is $40.

For the convenience of online ordering, there is a processing fee assessed by our publisher; therefore, the total cost will be $42.00 for high school and $29.40 for elementary/middle school.

In addition, this year we are offering at a cost the option for you to have your child’s name written on the book. This will cost $4.95 per book. You will add that to your online order.

To Purchase: Click on yearbook and select order to place it in your shopping cart.

If any parent would like to purchase a Senior Ad, you can do so now. If you are interested in purchasing space in this year's yearbook, please complete the required contract as well as submit payment, pictures, and a message by February 26, 2021. Eighth grade is a big year since your child will be leaving middle school and beginning high school next year. The journalism staff believes that eighth graders deserve some form of recognition for all their hard work. To help celebrate this achievement, we are including “dedications” in the 2020-21 K-8 yearbook.

If you would like to have your child in this section, please send a picture of your child (baby or current) and a short message to him/her that will be featured in the yearbook. Some examples are pictured below. There will be no extra charge for this feature.

All students in Tennessee public schools are required to take a Civics exam and earn an 85% in order to graduate. All current seniors are required to take or re-take the Civics exam this school year because of changes in requirements. Please plan to take your civics exam and pass with an 85% by March 4.

Study Materials and the Civics exam can be found in the Counseling Grade 12 CANVAS Modules.

All in-person Juniors need to stop by the counseling office prior to March 2 to pick up their individualized copy of the ACT NON-TEST INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS. Prior to testing you will need to create, merge, or confirm your new MYACT account in order to receive your scores. You will also complete all non-test portions of ACT online. ALL JUNIORS have a specialized code that is available on the NON-TEST INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS. IN PERSON students should pick up their instructions with their personalized code in the counseling office. Fully remote students can text Dr. Shaw on Remind to get a copy.

The ACT will be held at University School, and admission to test will be at the front of the building. Be prepared to wait outdoors until you are admitted, and please do not bring unnecessary gear (backpacks, purses, etc.) to the exam site. Phones and smartwatches will not be allowed in the testing rooms. PLEASE BRING A PHOTO ID.

March 2 will be Asynchronous days for all K-12 Students. Students who are testing will be dismissed to leave school at the end of the exam so please make transportation plans.

All students are pre-registered for the exam. Juniors need to please plan to arrive by 7:45am on March 2. School attendance will be taken at check in. Students who receive special accommodations for testing will be contacted individually for arranged testing times and locations.

Students will be required to have a temperature check, respond to a short health survey, and wear a mask in order to be admitted to the building. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ATTEND Pre-ACT/ACT TESTING IF YOU ARE NOT WELL, HAVE ANY COVID SYMPTOMS, HAVE HAD POTENTIAL COVID EXPOSURE, OR ARE UNDER QUARANTINE.

You will need to bring all necessary supplies (#2 pencils and calculators, etc.) as indicated on the ACT website https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-day.html (Links to an external site.). Testing materials will not be supplied and cannot be shared.

MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED THROUGHOUT THE EXAM. YOU WILL NOT BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A MASK, AND YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR THE MASK FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF THE EXAM.

My name is Rachel McCollough, and I am serving as VP Recruitment Services for TACRAO (Tennessee Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers) Board. We are a non-profit professional organization that exchanges ideas and information on and about higher education in the State of Tennessee and nation as a whole while promoting the advancement of higher education throughout Tennessee.

As mentioned previously, TACRAO will once again be hosting a series of virtual college fairs through StriveScan, a virtual platform, for high school students, transfer students, and counselors throughout the state of Tennessee to supplement for the many face-to-face college fairs that have been canceled. Colleges and institutions across the state and out-of-state will be giving short presentations virtually with the opportunity for live Q & A for the admissions representatives.

Student registration for the virtual college fair on March 4th is now open!

During the Virtual College Fair, students will have the chance to hear from many different colleges, both in-state and out-of-state. Student, counselors, and parents can register for free at https://www.strivescan.com/tennessee/ or by using the link below. Students can register anytime up through the program that they choose to attend. Students can choose which session(s) they want to attend. We hope you will encourage your students to register for these events. Counselors are welcome to register for these fairs as well. Also, please feel free to forward this information to other counselors in your area. I have attached a poster/social media graphic that can be used to promote this event.

We have decided to host these fairs statewide for the spring semester. Students across Tennessee can attend numerous sessions if they would like. High school students in each grade are welcome to attend. We are having specific transfer student fair for any students looking to transfer institutions. We are hosting these events multiple nights throughout the spring semester so students can attend sessions that work best for their schedule.

While student registration is not yet open for all of our virtual fairs, we thought it would be best to go ahead and provide the dates for future events for the spring semester. Below you can find the dates and times for the more events during the spring semester so be sure to save the date! Colleges and institutions are still registering for these events. Once registration for students opens on March 15 for these fairs, I will send another email with the registration link.

The University School Key Club February Service Project is a food and supply drive for the Washington County Humane Society and Animal Shelter. These organizations are always in great need of help from the community. There will be a collection bin in the lobby of University School for supply donations. For monetary gifts, make checks payable to either of these organizations and Sharon Squibb will forward to them. Ms. Squibb is also willing to purchase supplies with cash donations.

Over the past four years, Kaleb Meredith has excelled as both a student and as an athlete. He has amassed over 2,700 career points, placing him in the top three all-time leading scorers in Northeast Tennessee. He has been voted four times to both the All-Conference and All-Region teams, been voted Player of the Year in District 1A multiple times, has earned multiple tournament MVP awards, multiple All-Northeast Tennessee 1st Teams, and the Tennessee Sports Writers All State team. Showing his commitment to being a complete player, Kaleb has also been named Johnson City Press’ Northeast Tennessee Defensive Player of the Year. This season, Kaleb is leading Northeast Tennessee in scoring, averaging 30 points-per-game in addition to 9 rebounds-per-game and 4 steals-per-game. Congratulations to Kaleb on receiving this University School Career Achievement honor!
