Message from Mrs. Berrouet
We had a very short but cold week. We have been letting students enter the building before 7:45 when we had the freezing temperatures in the morning. Thank you for making sure that your children were dressed properly for the winter weather. Luckily, looks like the weather will be warming up a little next week.
The lost and found has been overflowing with clothing since December. Have your student check the stage and the lost and found closet in the cafeteria next week, since we will be donating all unclaimed items to those in need.
Have a blessed weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Berrouet

STAAR FIELD TEST
Dear Parents,
Robinson MS has been selected to participate in the STAAR Field Test, which will take place on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. To ensure a smooth testing experience, please remind your students to bring their fully charged chromebooks, a water bottle, and a book for leisure reading to school. We would like to inform you that students will not be permitted to use their phones or any other communication devices during testing. Mobile phones, AirPods, Apple watches, and other communication devices will be collected before testing begins, then returned to students once STAAR testing is complete. Feel free to leave mobile phones and other communication devices at home unless you deem them essential. Additionally, blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals should be kept home to not cause a distraction in the testing environment. We kindly request that you encourage your students to get a good night's sleep before the day of testing. It is important that they arrive to campus early enough to have breakfast and reach their assigned testing location on time. School opens every day at 7:45 am. Please arrive to school no later than 8:25 a.m. so that your student can do their best. On this day we will not be following the normal bell or lunch schedules. Further details about the STAAR Field Test can be found in the parent letter below.

Message From Nurse
I will begin sending out immunization letters this semester to all current 6th graders that still need to get updated immunizations for 7th grade. All 7th grade students are required to have an updated TDAP and Meningitis immunization before they can begin school in the fall. I check Immtrac every week for students listed in the Texas Immunization Registry and update records as they are entered. If your student is not in the Immtrac system, please be sure you send me their updated record as soon as possible to avoid any delays with fall registration.
On February 7th, all 7th grade females and 8th grade males will be screened for scoliosis by district screeners. Please see the notification letter below. If you have a religious reason for wanting to exclude your student, please let me know so I can get you the exemption affidavit.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me! Thank you.
Thank you!

DISTRICT NEWS
Long Range Facility Planning Community Input Meetings (Informational)
As part of Plano ISD’s ongoing strategic road-mapping process and as the district begins work on a long range facility plan, Plano ISD families, staff and community members are invited to attend and participate in a community input meeting near you. Meetings are conveniently located at six locations throughout the district (see dates and times below).
Background
In May 2023, the Plano ISD Board of Trustees approved the new Strategic Roadmap that is inclusive of a long range plan. As such, the plan includes a strategy to study current facilities, enrollment and programs. This study will:
- Assess all of our schools,
- Analyze student enrollment at each school,
- Evaluate high-quality programming,
- Consider whether buildings are being used effectively and
- Determine whether resources are fairly distributed to support all students.
The result of the study may lead to restructuring, or “rightsizing,” school sites to better serve students. Rightsizing may involve closing school buildings or adjusting attendance boundaries within the feeder pattern to allow for a more equitable disbursement of district resources. Ultimately, the study of school building capacity will be for the purpose of supporting thriving schools, classrooms, students, teachers and school leaders.
Visit www.pisd.edu/facilityroadmap for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions.

Arrival & Dismissal
Morning Arrival
The building will open at 7:45 each morning. Classes begin promptly at 8:25. There is no supervision prior to 7:45.
Please do not park in the carpool lane to wait for the doors to open. If you would like to wait with your child until doors open, please park in the south parking lot near the music entrance. The parking lot near the bus lane is for staff and campus visitors only.
Afternoon Dismissal
Our school day ends at 3:40. Students not attending after-school tutorials should exit the building by 3:45. Students who are walking or riding a bike should be off-campus by 3:50 if not
attending tutorials. Please have a ride secured for your child by 4pm.
Bus Information
Carpool Reminders
- In order to ease the flow of carpool traffic, please continue to pull forward as much as possible as the line moves. This will allow the maximum number of cars within the pick-up area.
- Please do not park in the entrance lane of the south parking lot after students are dismissed at 3:40pm. Once students are dismissed, please pull forward as much as possible to reduce the number of cars lined up on Preston Meadow. Thank you for your cooperation.
The side carpool lane in the afternoon is for students with heavy band instruments. All other students should be picked up in the front carpool lane.

ID Badge Expectations
Parents, please review ID badge rules with your student:
Students are required to wear badges at all times on a lanyard while on campus. Please work with your students to help them develop a home routine to help them remember their badge every day.
If a student loses their badge you will be required to purchase a replacement badge for $5.00
If a student forgets their badge they can receive a temporary badge from the badge station in the morning before going to class. Multiple days of forgetting your badge will result in school consequences and/or purchasing a new badge for $5.
Any adult on campus may ask a student to identify themselves by showing an ID badge. Refusal to do so will result in an office referral.
Attendance Guidelines
ATTENDANCE
Student attendance is key to their success. Good attendance helps students develop a strong work ethic in the future.
TARDY
Tardiness is marked when students arrive at class after 8:25 am. A student who arrives after 8:40 AM (more than 15 minutes late) is marked absent for period 1. In addition, students are marked tardy for being late to any class period, or absent if they are more than 15 minutes late to any class period during the day. 3 tardies = 1 Unexcused absence
LATE ARRIVALS AND EARLY RELEASES
Students must sign in and out at the front office. Failure to sign in and out is considered a truancy violation. *Note* There will be no Early Releases after 3:25 pm.
ABSENCES
Medical Appointment (return a doctor’s excuse note with dates of absence within 3 days).
Illness (only excused by nurse or return a parent/guardian’s note with dates and reason for absence within 3 school days).
Court Appointment (return court documentation within 3 days).
Other (return with a note within 3 days and specify reason for absence). Non-school activities (example sport competitions etc.) must be pre-approved by the principal in order for the student to make-up for missed work. Most of these absences are considered unexcused with make-up work allowed.
Excuse notes can be dropped off at the front office or they can be emailed to 050absence@pisd.edu
A doctor’s note is required if a student has been absent for 3 or more consecutive days.
Excuse notes should include the students name, ID number, reason and date of the absence.
A parent call does NOT excuse the absence. We must have a note (or email) on file.
ATTENDANCE UPDATES AND FOLLOW UPS
The parent portal can be used to monitor attendance. If there are any discrepancies, a verification email from the teacher is required to make attendance updates.
School Meals
- Families who may qualify should complete a federal meal application for free or reduced-price meals, available through Parent Portal or via the website at www.pisd.edu/mealprogram. Click the green SchoolCafé button to begin. View this SchoolCafe information video for instruction on how to complete the application.
- Families who already have a SchoolCafé account can sign in to complete the meal application.
- Families who do not have an account can create a new one by selecting that option on the SchoolCafé page.
Cell Phones/ Personal Electronic Devices
Personal electronic devices, such as cell phones, earbuds, and others are allowed at Robinson, but only during the following times:
- before school from 7:45 - 8:18 (Students will be asked to put their devices away once they are released to go to their 1st period class)
- during lunch in cafeteria
- after 3:40
We will be asking for students to keep these items in their backpacks and out of sight during instructional time. Starting on Monday, 8/14 not following our electronics policy will result in student consequences.
It is important that we are using our instructional time focused on academic learning with a cell phone-free environment. Years past, cell phones were utilized in the classrooms for various learning apps, but with one-to-one Chromebooks, cell phones are not needed in the classroom anymore and can become a distraction.
Any conduct that disrupts our school environment will be addressed using the student code of conduct. Taking pictures or videos of other students without permission may be a violation of the student code of conduct. Social media interactions that disrupt our school environment will be addressed using the student code of conduct.
Please discuss the full cell phone/electronic device guidelines with your child prior to sending the devices to school.
If you need to contact your child during the school day, please contact the front office (469.752.6200) and we will relay the information to them.
Attendance/ Tardies
We will be enforcing tardies this school year. Please ensure your child is at Robinson in their classroom before the start of class each morning. Please note that school starts at 8:25 am, which means students should be in their classrooms ready to learn by that time. Excessive number of tardies will result in consequences.
Absences
All absences need a parent or doctor note to be considered excused. We take attendance every period so an absence from any period is an absence from school. We need a note even if you check out early or arrive late.
Regarding absences please contact our attendance clerk:
Binaifer Kekobad
