School Counselor's Office
The guidance office at our high school is currently immersed in winter Keystone activities, ensuring students are well-prepared for their assessments. As we approach February, the focus will shift towards course selection for the upcoming academic year. Stay tuned for detailed information on the selection process. Additionally, mark your calendars for a FAFSA completion night scheduled for January 30th from 6-8 pm, offering valuable assistance for students and parents navigating the financial aid application process.

Principles of Engineering class:

Civil Engineering and Architecture students:
Surveyed their subject teachers who will serve as home buying clients. These teachers provide their own preferences for their future Affortable Home that will be designed by each student while adhering to the standards set by Habitat for Humanity and the state and local building codes

Fundamentals students finished up their amazing snowflakes and started working on moving parts in our CAD program. The smiles on their faces when they animate it is always a blast to see. All Of their hard work is paying off!
Advanced Fundamentals
Students have embarked in new territory. We are using a new setting in our CAD program to fit and form things to the human body! The possibilities are endless!
Ms.Hassey’s Intro to Business /Business Management classes
In the Intro to Business class, students are currently engaged in an exciting Stock Market Game Project. They actively participated by selecting stocks and closely monitoring their performance in the market. Through this hands-on experience, students are gaining valuable insights into the dynamics of the stock market, evaluating the factors that influenced their chosen stocks, and analyzing the outcomes. This project not only enhances their understanding of financial concepts but also sharpens their critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Business Management
Students are immersed in crafting detailed business plans for their future ventures. This involves comprehensive planning, including aspects such as business objectives, market analysis, financial projections, and operational strategies. By working on their business plans, students are developing a practical understanding of the key components necessary for successful business management. This hands-on approach equips them with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship and business development in the real world.

Computer Science Principles
English
English 9: Students are finishing up a unit on the art of theater, with an emphasis on The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The students will then move into a unit focusing on poetry, with an emphasis on figurative language. There will also be a continued focus on utilizing the R.A.C.E.S. strategy for writing constructed responses. Students will continue making progress on their personalized Reading Exact Path.
English 10: Students are finishing up a unit that focuses on analyzing the role “point of view” plays in literature. The students will then move to a unit that emphasizes the skill set of identifying the theme and/or main idea of a text. Students will also be examining numerous reading and writing strategies in preparation for the Keystone Exams. Students will continue making progress on their personalized Reading Exact Path.
English 11: Students have begun reading several works from the time period of literary realism. The major text that the students will examine during this month is Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck. Students will learn of the historical setting of the novel, which occurs during the Great Depression in the 1930s. While reading the text, students will analyze the idea of the “American Dream,” and engage with the themes of loneliness, friendship, and independence.
English 12: Students are delving into the elements of drama and Shakespearean tragedy, with a specific emphasis on The Tragedy of Macbeth. After the completion of the Shakespearean play, students will begin examining the British romantic poets.
Health & PE
Driver Education
Driver Education students have recently completed the insurance unit. They learned how to protect themselves by ensuring they have sufficient coverage, how their choices in selecting insurance impact their premiums, and gained insights into various factors influencing their insurance costs. They have also just completed their adverse driving conditions project. This project focused on driving in poor weather conditions.
Adapted PE
Mr. Sicilia and the Adaptive PE class have been focusing on developing badminton skills. The class, along with their helpers, thoroughly enjoy hitting the shuttle back and forth. DJ Mike has taken over the music aspect of the class. The students and Mr. Sicilia are grateful for the variety of new tunes. Every Monday, Mr. Bachman generously donates his time to assist the students in swimming, and they are having a great time!
Physical Education
PE students have been focusing on basketball, weight training, badminton and ping pong. Final exams are coming quickly, as we prepare to end the half year course. Good Luck everyone!!
Health and Wellness
In Health and Wellness, students are about to complete the comprehensive sex education unit.
They are currently finishing up presentations of different sexually transmitted infections. Next week, the focus will be on contraception before prepping for final exams.
Math
Recently in our Statistics class, students investigated Vitruvian Theory, where the class measured height, handspan, and armspan. They then used two-variable statistics to create a least square regression. Coincidentally, it supported the theory.
Our personal financing classes are finishing up a unit on checking and banking. The students studied a variety of topics during the unit. They learned about hidden fees associated with checking accounts. They also spent time investigating the pros and cons of online banks versus the traditional brick and mortar institutions.
Geometry students are investigating the Isosceles Triangle Theorem. Over the next few weeks, they will be locating the center of mass in triangles, and participating in the Centroid Olympic Games.
Science
Chemistry
Students have been studying the law of conservation of energy and energy transfer. Students conducted laboratory experiments on endothermic and exothermic reactions and calculating the specific heat of various metals. They also began analyzing the structure of the Periodic Table.
Biology
Classes have been working on the Cell Membrane and Cell Transport. They just completed a unit on bioenergetics: Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration, and ATP. They incorporated many hands-on experiences including the Cell Membrane Bubble Lab and an Osmosis Naked Egg Lab. (photos attached)
Honors Biology 2
Students explored the field of cladistics and created phylogenetic trees representing the evolutionary relationships between the six kingdoms of life, while also analyzing major animal and plant phyla.
Sport and Exercise Physiology
Students learned about training periodization. Students designed annual training plans for athletes of their choice in order to maximize the body's adaptations to training so that the athletes ability would peak during the most important time of the year. Anatomy students completed a unit on the Skeletal System and did presentations on Bone Disorders
Social Studies
Mr. Huber and Ms. Wright's classes took a trip to the U.S. Capitol Building. Students made connections between the tour and their current learning on the Legislative Branch. They also had the opportunity to visit the memorials along the National Mall.
Students in Ms. Currie's classes took a field trip to the National Constitution Center and historic Philadelphia In December. Students visited the special 19th Amendment special exhibit, the Liberty Bell and Carpenter's Hall. The trip coincides with their study of the Constitution in their Civics & Government class.
Sergeant Sherre Graves and Officer Ryan Graves discussed laws and law enforcement with students from Ms. Currie's classes. Both told interesting stories about their training and experiences as Philadelphia officers, as well as the many opportunities for anyone interested in working for the Police Department. The Department hires everything from accountants to computer specialists to divers. Ofr. Ryan , a police diver, talked about what it's like to endure weather conditions and the physical demands of the job. Sgt. Graves talked about her unusual path to becoming a patrol sergeant, as well as the importance of continuing their education. Students really enjoyed both speakers, who volunteered their time on a work-day!
Ms. Wright’s Civics classes completed a mock House of Representatives project. Students wrote their own bills, elected their own leaders, and engaged in discussion about issues that mattered to them in order to learn more about the legislative process.
Ms. Dick’s AP US History students took a trip to Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia to enhance their understanding of the Antebellum Reform Era.
Our 9th grade Western Civilizations students have been examining the events, causes and effects of the French Revolution, as well as the life and legacy of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Mr. Forward’s students completed slide presentations to explore the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. Students chose one of our 46 Presidents and created a comprehensive profile and were given the opportunity to present their profiles to the class.
Mr. Kotofsky's American Pop Culture students learned about the top selling "As Seen on TV" products and passed around many different examples for a hands-on learning experience.
World Language
Hola, Ciao, and Hello! Happy New Year!
Classroom Corner:
All levels of our Spanish 2 classes will start learning how to use the 2 past tenses. Señora Gregory and Señorita Broggi had their 3rd period classes go head to head in a Spanish spelling bee just before Christmas break.

Our Italian classes explored cultural events and learned about holiday traditions in Italy prior to winter break.
