This week our kiddos got to try Plutos - a cross between a plum and an apricot. Most kids absolutely LOVED them! This program has been such a beautiful way for kids to learn about healthy eating habits (fresh fruit and veggies everyday) and providing many with an opportunity to try something they have never eaten before.

Our $2 Dress Down Day is the LAST Friday of the month - the same as last year. Students who earn FREE dress down coupons, and classes that earn Zero Ribbit tickets are the only students who can dress down EXCEPT on $2 Dress Down Day.

We have been lenient for the first couple weeks of school; however, starting next week, students who are not wearing dress code appropriate clothes will be asked to change or have their parents bring them the appropriate clothing.

Our Acadience beginning of year (BOY) 1st - 6th grade reading scores show great improvement from last year. Last year 46% of our students started the school year at or above benchmark. This year, 50% of our students started the year at benchmark. We are super excited to see our kids continue to make growth this school year!

Next week teachers will be sending home a progress report showing your child's beginning of year scores in language arts and math. The progress reports will be printed on yellow paper and in an envelope with your child's name. Please reach out to your child's teacher If you do not receive the progress report by next Friday, September 17.

You can use the benchmark data shown on our website to compare your child's Acadience and Imagine Learning scores to the expected level of performance for their current grade. The benchmark scores are found using the STUDENT DATA icon and scrolling partway down the page.

The clearing of the parking lot is down to 14 minutes at 3:30 and 10 minutes at 4:30 pm. Friday is still a little longer as every student leaves at 1:30 pm. Your continued patience and courtesy to parking lot attendants and other drivers will help clear the parking lot quickly and safely.

Please help us keep kiddos safe by NOT parking on the west side of Midland Drive and running across the street. We cannot safely escort families across the road as we are not allowed to stop traffic. We have contacted the city again to see about getting a crossing guard to help on Midland Drive. Captain Smith is in charge of the crossing guards for Roy City. Perhaps your own phone calls or emails will speed up the process.

Don't forget, parents are ALWAYS invited to volunteer to help in the parking lot.Just show up 15 minutes before school is out, grab a yellow vest and ask the office how you can assist.

A Math Talk is a 10-15 minute activity designed to elicit multiple strategies and provide opportunities for students to reason about the relationships in the numbers and make connections in mathematics. Students in all grades participate in math talks within their classrooms.

If you are in the military or a first responder and would like to eat lunch with our students, simply call the school before 9:00 am and let us know your menu choice and what time you plan to attend lunch. Check in at the office in uniform and grab your FREE LUNCH card. Then, join our kiddos in the lunchroom or outside.

Parents can donate to this program by dropping a check at the office with the notation "Lunch for Safety" or by using the DONATE icon on our website and paying online.

Our school is now open for parents to volunteer in many capacities - wiping down lunch tables (daily 11:00 - 1:00), helping in the parking lot (3:30 - 3:50 M-TH and 1:30 - 2:00 F), donating to our Lunch for Safety Program, or helping in your child's classroom.

Visit our Volunteer Page for more information and to track your volunteer hours. Families who meet the 30 hour suggested amount of volunteer time will have their name placed on our Volunteer Pond in the front foyer.

For every coat or jacket you take, three more seem to take its place. I am positive the coats are reproducing though the science suggests otherwise. We keep the container under the front portico and you can stop by day or night over the weekend to take the items that belong to your kiddos.

Although meals are currently free, it is imperative that parents apply for FREE / REDUCED status. This is done through ASPIRE - simply login and complete the application using the link on the right side of the window.

FREE / REDUCED status provides the school with extra funding to help support our Title I at-risk program which includes morning supervision and BASE as well as intervention support for struggling students. This past year it also provided additional assistance for some students in the form of an electronic debit card. It also ensures that if we are no longer able to offer free meals, parents are already qualified for free/reduced status.
