Weekly Update
Week of October 11th
Message from Principal Drew...
All students will be taking benchmark tests this week. These tests provide us with very important information about student learning up to this point. It is imperative that each student do their best on each benchmark so that teachers can make informed decisions about the best steps for student success moving forward in their classes. This is also the last week of the grading period. Students if you are behind please speak with your teachers to see what can be done to make up work and improve your grade by Friday.
It is Homecoming week this week at PCHS. That means spirit week is upon us. Each day this week we will see who can dress the best to meet each theme. The themes for spirit week are as follows: Monday - Pajama Day, Tuesday - Country vs. Country Club day, Wednesday - Character Day, Thursday - Throwback day, and Friday - Black and Gold/School Spirit Day. Students are reminded that all spirit week outfits must meet dress code. We will have a pep rally on Friday on the football field weather permitting.
Attention parents of students who ride Bus 112: Due to the driver shortage in our district, there will be a slight change to the transportation arrangements. One driver will now transport Perquimans County Middle School and Perquimans County High School students on the same bus to their respective schools on a combination route. The merger will begin on Tuesday, October 19th. We appreciate your understanding as we work diligently to meet the transportation needs of our students.
Tenth-grade students will be testing on October 20th. The PreACT assessment includes four multiple-choice tests: English, math, reading, and science. The PreACT is designed to help parents and educators identify areas where students may need additional academic support or remediation. The PreACT can also help to initiate strategic conversations between parents and schools regarding dual enrollment decisions, identifying curriculum gaps, implementing interventions on behalf of students, and choosing Advanced Placement classes.
Seniors we have a very important opportunity for you and your parents tomorrow night at 5:45 PM in the media center at PCHS. We are excited to host a financial aid night where parents and students will have the opportunity to learn more about the process of securing financial aid for their education beyond high school. We encourage every Senior and their parents to attend this event which is being hosted by Ms. Morgan Gray our college advisor and our guidance department.
On Friday of this week our Seniors will have a brief assembly with our Herff Jones representative to receive their graduation packets. These packets will include information about ordering caps and gowns, graduation announcements, and other Class of 2022 items. Every Senior will need to use this information to order their caps and gowns for graduation in June.
Congratulations to all of our sports teams on a successful week last week as our soccer, volleyball, and football teams all recorded wins and our cross country team placed well in two meets. A special recognition to our cheerleaders. They do an amazing job each Friday night at our football games and have worked incredibly hard to perform their cheers and stunts. We have another busy week of games this week with Soccer playing on Monday at Gates and on Wednesday at home versus Riverside, Volleyball will be at Gates on Tuesday and home for Senior night versus Riverside on Thursday, Cross Country will run at Riverside on Thursday, and Football will host Bertie for Homecoming on Friday night. As a reminder all children below the age of 14 should be accompanied by an adult at all PCHS athletic events.
Finally, it is not to late to take part in our bus driver class this week. Class will be held Wednesday through Friday of this week in the media center at PCHS from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day. If you or anyone you know is interested in driving please don't miss this opportunity to join the Perquimans County Schools team.
Thanks for listening. Go Pirates!
Attention Seniors...
Pre-ACT...
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has a partnership with ACT, a not-for-profit organization that provides educational assessment, research, information, and program management services. In North Carolina, all tenth-graders take the PreACT. This assessment measures what students have learned in their courses and helps educators identify the information that students still need to learn to succeed in college or a career.
The PreACT simulates the ACT testing experience by providing students early exposure to ACT test-quality questions. The PreACT is reported on the same 1–36 score scale as the ACT, but PreACT has a maximum score of 35. The PreACT also provides a predicted ACT composite score range.
Tenth-grade students will be testing on October 20th.
