Mini Vinnie Back Pack Program
One of the pillars of our school is service. This lent is a perfect opportunity to build on this pillar of our mission by partnering with the Mini Vinnies in supporting the Backpack Program. Many families in our community rely on the free or reduced-price school lunch program to help provide nutritious meals for their children during the school week. Some of these families struggle to provide those same meals for their children over the weekend. For these children, Operation Backpack helps fill in the gap, providing backpacks full of nutritious, kid-friendly, non-perishable meals to be eaten over the weekend when resources may be limited. As a school, we’re excited to support the program by becoming Backpack Buddies. For just $25 a month, Backpack Buddies provides a special child with 2 breakfast items, 2 lunch items, 2 servings of fruits and vegetables, and 2 daily snacks each weekend.
Here is the challenge: we want our students to spread the word about the Backpack Program by serving in their community. Contact your grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends to ask them if you can do service for them in exchange for a donation to this program. This means that you are going to wash cars, wash windows, clean up in the yard, or other services to gather donations. Bobcats are also welcome to include their own change and dollars, but please do not have students go door to door. We have an abundance of gifts, and it's time to share them and fill backpacks with food for these children in need.
Our goal is for each class to be a Backpack Buddy to one child for a whole year! By collecting $300, each Borromeo class will be providing their Backpack Buddy with 12 months of weekend meals, helping to alleviate the trauma of food insecurity The Home and School Association has agreed to match up to $100 for each classroom. My hope is to fill the children’s backpacks full of food and their hearts with love and prayers. I encourage you to pray for the children that we are providing for and their families.
New Website is Live
Check out our the new www.borromeoschool.com ! We have been hard at work behind the scenes making a brand new website that is not only user friendly but represents our mission through content. This website will improve our ability to not only communicate, but for families to interact with us. With the new platform, our website will be fully integrated with FACTS and you will have one less place to click to find what you are looking for regarding all things SCB Bobcats!
Virtue of the Month - Obedience
Definition: Obedience is assenting to rightful authority without hesitation or resistance.
How to practice obedience?
This week we practiced obedience by acknowledging the thing we are supposed to do. When a teacher asks us to do something, we acknowledge and say, "yes" or "I understand" or an act of acknowledgement.
During this Lent, the students are learning how obedience a response to love of God. As we practice prayer, fasting, and almsgiving this Lent, we recognize how those acts empty ourselves of what could be keeping us from God. We then practice obedience by doing what we ought and thus filling our souls up with what is good and of God.

Fish Fry
Our parish and school's second largest annual fundraiser are here: the fish fry. As you may recall, when you signed all the back- to- school forms there was a part indicating that working the picnic and the fish fry were expectations for SCB parents to work. Each family is required to work (2) 2 hour shifts during the 6 weeks/Fridays of fish fries. The fish fries are an integral component which allows the parish to help subsidize our school's existence.
While you may work any shift you'd like, we do encourage the grade levels to take various weeks to cover. Please check out the grade level assigned weeks and maybe partner up with another family. Fish fries are a big and fun part of St. Charles Borromeo's fellowship!
Should you have to cancel your shift after you sign up, please find a replacement. If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to Heather Floodman at heatherfloodman@borromeoschool.com or (314)954-1116 . Thank you for helping fill over 400 shifts to make this year's fish fries a success!
