Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a big bright beautiful world as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.

The Roosevelt Elementary Tool Room was recently recognized by the Associated General Contractors of Michigan with their 2019 Spark Award. Bill Bertakis and Jim Bugg were in attendance to accept the award along with a $1,000 check for the Tool Room. Congratulations to this group of dedicated volunteers and thank you for all that you do!

Oakland Schools is hosting the Oakland County Scripps Regional Spelling Bee this weekend on Feb. 29 at 12 p.m. The event will be videotaped and shared after March 7, in accordance with the new Scripps National Spelling Bee rules. There will be 82 students in fifth through eighth-grade from across Oakland County will compete against one another to see who is the top speller in the region. The following students will be representing West Bloomfield in the competition:

• Sabrina Mathew, fifth-grade at Roosevelt
  
• Jaeden Watts, fifth-grade at Scotch
  
• Sharon Chang, sixth-grade at Abbott MS
• Kennedy Shaw, seventh-grade at OLMS

You are invited to nominate recipients for awards to be presented at the 2020 Michigan Week Community Awards Breakfast. Find the nomination form and award categories on the Michigan Week website. All nominations are due by 11:59 PM on March 11, 2020.

WBYA recognizes young people from our community for making positive volunteer contributions every year. Nominations come from schools, hospitals, religious organizations, fire and police departments, and private citizens. Local, county, and state dignitaries participate in recognizing the nominees and making the event very special.
