ABC Students Attend Tech Empowerment Day

Over 60 engineering, information technology, and computer science students attended the 2022 Tech Empowerment Day at SoFi Stadium. This event, presented by Los Angeles County, provides students with hands-on experience and behind-the-scenes exposure to a wide range of modern technology. From coding to robotics to space exploration, students learned how their Career Technical Education (CTE) classes translate into real-world careers. About 3,200 students and educators from across the county attended the event. The ABCUSD offices of CTE and Equity sponsored this event for the District’s students from Artesia, Cerritos, and Gahr High Schools.

Cerritos High Wins the Jug

At one time, most of the land where ABCUSD is located was dairy farms and was known as Dairy Valley. So, it was only natural that when local high schools began to compete, they’d do so for the honor of winning a milk jug. Most recently, Gahr High School held the coveted jug, but no longer. Cerritos High School took back the jug last Friday by beating the Gahr Gladiators. Congrats to those student-athletes who played so hard. Where will the jug end up next time?

Thanks, School Administrators!

October is National Principals Month, and this week is the Week of the School Administrator. School administrators, like principals and assistant principals, do more than make sure schools run smoothly. You can often find them covered in silly string or eating bugs to motivate students and fundraise. More importantly, they are committed to the students they serve. Join us in thanking our school administrators!

College Connections Week

The week of October 17th is College Connections Week, and ABCUSD high schools will hold events and activities focused on the value of college attendance. From College Spirit Day activities to informative events, the ABC College & Career Readiness team will provide helpful resources to families and students interested in furthering their education.

ABC Bands and Color Guards

Last weekend, bands from Cerritos High School, Gahr High School, Ross Middle School, and Tetzlaff Middle School performed at competitions across the area. Both Cerritos and Gahr performed at the Mayfair Monsoon Classic, where they both won their divisions. The Tetzlaff band took the top spot at the Placentia Parade and Band Review, while the band from Ross, competing for the first time since 2018, took fifth place at the Placentia Heritage Festival parade. Congrats to all of these fantastic student musicians and performers.

Great California ShakeOut

Next Thursday, October 20th, at 10:20 a.m., ABCUSD students and staff will be part of a statewide earthquake drill during the Great California ShakeOut. This annual event helps the District prepare for a large earthquake. The Great ShakeOut has videos for multiple age groups and situations on its YouTube channel. Visit shakeout.org to learn more about this preparedness event and find resources to use with your children.
