Teacher Communication and Recording of Lessons
I wanted to give a shout out to our teachers who have been working around the clock to get school off and running. Although we have certainly experienced and continue to experience some hiccups along the way, we appreciate the patience you have shown our teachers. In recognition that the school year is a marathon and not a sprint, I'm encouraging our teachers to ensure they have balance in their lives and are shutting things down at night. You can support me in this by understanding they may need up to 24 hours to respond. We recognize that some needs can't wait. In those cases, please call the office for a more immediate response.

Data Impressions/Microsoft: Go for Daily Engagement Incentive Program
The Tustin Unified School District (TUSD) is partnering with Data Impressions & Microsoft to highlight students who model outstanding daily engagement. Data Impressions and Microsoft have generously donated Microsoft Surface Go (or similar) devices to continue the TUSD engagement incentive program into the sixth year! One computer will be given away at the end of the school year at every school site in TUSD. All students who maintain daily engagement at TUSD’s schools will have a chance to win!
Program Details/Rules/Eligibility:
- All participants in the program must be students who attend one of TUSD’s schools in the 2020-21 school year.
- To be eligible for an entry in the lottery, a student must engage in instruction with their teachers and/or log into the necessary learning management system (ie. Schoology) on each school day throughout the year: August 13, 2020, through April 16, 2021.
- The only excused absences that will keep a student eligible for the drawing will be illness or religious-affiliated. Discipline related absences including excessive tardiness to class a suspension of any kind would disqualify a student from the drawing.
- A list of students who remain eligible for the drawing will be available at each school at the end of each quarter. A final list of eligible students will be one week prior to the drawing. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor their own eligibility and to resolve any discrepancies with the school attendance office/main office at least three days prior to the drawing.
- Drawings for the donated devices will take place at each school site beginning May 10, 2021. Each winning student will receive their device from their principal following the drawing at their school.
TUSD's School Opening & Safety Plan
The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority as they return to school. When the new school year begins, the on-campus school will look much different than previous years due to new health and safety measures.
Tustin Unified has created a School Opening and Safety Plan that addresses how schools will meet the needs of students in the coming school year. The plan to reopen schools is based on current guidance from public health officials, state agencies, as well as your valuable input from the recent parent survey, and will be updated as the situation evolves. As a result, TUSD has put together two options that will address social-distancing requirements to keep TUSD students and staff safe while also supporting student learning.
For the 2020-21 academic year, Tustin Unified will provide families a choice of two instructional options, including the hybrid model – a blend of in-person and remote learning, and Tustin Connect (K-12) – 100% online virtual school with optional in-person instruction.
The TUSD School Opening and Safety Plan (English linked, Spanish below) covers the many procedures and protocols that are being put in place for a successful and safe reopening. The plan can also be found on the TUSD website at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
