Miller Elementary Weekly Update
April 23, 2023
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families,
I can't believe we are bouncing into the last full week of April! Our time together this year has been truly amazing and I can't believe the last month is quickly growing near. Your amazing children have developed an immense about of independence and resiliency and we have enjoyed the front-row seat to watch their growth blossom this school year. As you can see in the above picture, our kindergarteners have been designing their own obstacle courses in PE class and they have hopped, skipped, and jumped with their friends all week long!
This is another reminder to dress your child in layers so they can manage our ever-changing temperatures in Ohio. This is the best and most efficient way for them to be comfortable all day long. Our building has air-conditioning, but it's not kept too cold. They can easily grab a sweatshirt from their bookbag if they need another layer. This week looks to be cooler so please have your child wear a jacket for outdoor recess.
I hope everyone is enjoying spring activities and sports with their families! I know I have some cold game days ahead so I wish everyone the best as we bundle up this week. We will hold another tornado drill this week to talk about the importance of weather safety. This is a great time of year to show your children safe places in your home too.
Finally, this Wednesday, April 26th we will be celebrating our amazing administrative assistant, Mrs. Vicki Wolf. As you know, she is the first voice you hear when you call into school, the one who is ready to lend a helping hand, and she has the answer to so many questions that your little ones have each day. If you have extra time, ask your child to write a special note, or find some other way to say THANK YOU to Mrs. Wolf this Wednesday! We all appreciate her SO MUCH!
Warmly,
Maria Goodman

A Message from Mrs. Menta - Craddock Principal
Greetings Families of Incoming First Graders!
It is hard to believe but, we are fully in the planning phase for the 23-24 school year. Below you will find the link to a Student Placement Parent Feedback form. While I cannot accept specific teacher requests, you are invited to fill out the short Google form linked below to share what type of teacher your child does best with. I will personally read all of those submissions and combine your thoughts with the information from our school staff to make the best placement for your child. If you would like your feedback considered, please fill out this form instead of emailing me. It helps me greatly to stay organized and have all of this important information in one place! You are also more than welcome to come in and meet with me to talk about your thoughts. My contact information is below.
We need to begin placement of students in approximately one month, so any feedback you'd like to provide must be to me no later than Friday, May 12th if you would like it considered. Thank you and please reach out with any questions, concerns or feedback!
Spring Music Updates
Hello Families!
We wanted to share that we have an additional music educator, Mr. Justin Moore, joining us to teach our afternoon music classes for the remainder of the year. Mrs. Iriarte will still be teaching classes that have music in the morning, so your children may still have her as their music educator. Mr. Moore has been a music educator in the district for the past year and a half and is stepping in and teaching in the afternoons. If you have any questions, please let us know! Welcome, Mr. Moore!
The spring is full of musical sounds and your child has been wonderfully learning about rhythm patterns, moving to the beat and choreographed movements to folk partner songs with classmates. We are sharing a digital music performance with our kindergarten families this year instead of a music concert. Your classroom teacher will share this copy by the end of the school year.
Look for a few sneak previews in ClassDojo this spring as we continue to learn and grow in our musical abilities!
All the best,
Mrs. Iriarte, Mr. Moore, and Mrs. Goodman
PBIS Implementation Throughout the 22-23 School Year
Our goal is to teach children what it looks like and feels like to exhibit our 3 big ideas which will help them have a positive experience at Miller Elementary. This effort is to ensure that we are proactively teaching the expectations and acknowledging children for doing what is expected instead of using a more punitive-based system. Natural consequences look like relearning how to walk in the hallways, how to have safe hands on the playground, or how to clean up after snack. Children learn best from practicing and modeling what is expected. We work to re-teach or re-practice any skills that are still emerging with whole class lessons, small group lessons, or individual practice sessions as needed.
Remember if you are noticing a behavior at home, help your child by reteaching what you want them to do and celebrate each time you see that expected behavior. They are used to this at school so we're sure it will help at home too!

Extra Clothes
1: Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in their backpack. This includes extra socks and underwear. They often feel more comfortable in their own clothing.
2: Our clinic is running low on pants. If your family has a pair of girls or boys pants that your child has out grown and you would be willing to donate to our school, we would appreciate any donations. Please send in washed items labeled "Extra Clinic Clothes" and we will put them to good use. Thank you!
Reporting Absences
We ask that you call Miller School at 330-562-6199 to either speak with Vicki Wolf or leave a message. Please share your child's first name, last name, teacher, and the reason for the absence. If they are going to an appointment, please ask for a doctor's note to have on file here at school. Thank you!
If your family will have a planned absence due to an event or vacation, you will need to fill out a planned absence form for our schools. Please send in a note requesting this form as soon as you know your anticipated date.
If your child is experiencing illness symptoms and you have questions for our school nurse, Jackie Pawlowski, you may call 330-954-2286. She can help answer any questions.
