PRINCIPAL UPDATE
Dear Parents,
The Countdown is on!! Just nine more days of school!!
This week the Fourth graders learned more about how the economy works with their Market Day projects and sales. It was so interesting to see what students created and sold with their “money”.
Field Day was a great success. The students had fun as they went to seven different stations. The weather cooperated with sunny skies and a nice breeze to offset the heat. Kudos to Phys Ed teacher, Chris Heckathorn.
Our Fifth grade band and orchestra had a combined concert with Roosevelt and Scotch at WBMS Thursday evening. It was a thrill to see how many students are involved with this program across the district. The Gymnasium was packed with future high school band and orchestra members!! If your fourth grader has not yet signed up for band or orchestra for the next school year, please email jesse.sacks@wbsd.org, linda.trotter@wbsd.org or andrea.cole@wbsd.org for more information. Congrats to teachers Andrea Cole, Jesse Sacks and Linda Trotter.
Tonight we have a Student Council and PTO sponsored Movie Night in our Multipurpose room. Have your kiddos bring a nice blanket and stuffed animal to cozy up too. It starts at 7 pm.

Mystery envelope
Dear Parents,
An envelope with money inside was dropped off for payment for a lost iCenter book. This envelope has no name or any information on it. If this envelope belongs to you please contact Mrs. VanNostrand. The envelope was white with blue specks (like made from recyclable materials) and said iCenter with red colored pencil.
CARLINE UPDATES
Dear Parents,
For the safety of our students, we must all follow these simple guidelines each and every day at drop off and pick up:
- Please do not come to wait in carline until after 3:10PM. Our Preschool parents are trying to pick up their students and our long line makes this very difficult for them to do so safely.
DROP OFF
School doors open at 8:55 am. That is when staff reports. We have no one to supervise before that time. In the past our wonderful parent volunteer has allowed parents to let students out of the cars at 8:50, so that traffic can move out more quickly. But without proper supervision, this is an accident just waiting to happen. So we can no longer continue that practice.
As you are coming around that long ride around the drive,
- Please have your little one get their bags ready to go, say your goodbyes, you stay in the car and only the child gets out of the car. Hugs and kisses as you round the bend, please.
PULL UP AS FAR AS YOU CAN–do not stay to watch them walk to the entry door. There are literally a hundred cars behind you waiting to get on the move.
DO NOT LET YOUR STUDENTS OUT TO PLAY ON THE PLAYGROUND WHILE YOU ARE WAITING FOR THE DOORS TO OPEN. This, too, is an accident waiting to happen, with unsupervised students on the playground. And this week we had parents who pulled out from parking spaces by the playground, once they loaded their kids back in to drop them off and almost caused an accident. In addition, some of these playground kids run across the playground to the sidewalk and all we need is for one to fall into the path of a moving car and we will all never forgive ourselves.
And lastly, as much as possible, please have the children exit your car on the drivers side. I hold my breath each time they get out on the passenger side, as cars are not always looking and my biggest fear is that one of the Sheiko Sharks will get hit.
And lastly, please continue to turn right out of the parking lot. It makes the traffic go so much faster and is safer for all.
AFTERNOON PICK UP–has been going well since we made some tweaks several weeks ago. Thank you for pulling up as far as you can and for turning right out of the parking lot.
Thank you so much!!
Kathy Sheiko,
Principal

FALL ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
Dear Sheiko Families,
The West Bloomfield School District is moving to an all-online enrollment process. Each year, families will be required to log into PowerSchool and complete a Back to School Enrollment Packet. Families will be required to do this for each child enrolled with WBSD.
Families will complete forms regarding emergency information, technology, lunch forms, FERPA, and other important annual school forms that require parent approval. To prepare for this, please make sure you have and know your login and password for PowerSchool.
If not, contact our school for assistance, or visit https://www.wbsd.org/parents/powerschool for more information.
Please make sure you check your email in July for additional details.
Thank you for your support.
Dear Parents,
We are busy planning our fourth Youth Assistance Food Truck Rally being hosted by West Bloomfield, Birmingham and Bloomfield YA’s and our major sponsor, Orchard Mall. This year’s event will be an all-day food truck rally that will be taking place on June 10th at the Orchard Mall. This event will feature some of the best food trucks in the area, and we are expecting a large turnout. To make this event a success, we are looking for volunteers to help out throughout the day. We understand that not everyone can commit to volunteering for the entire day, so we are happy to accept volunteers who can help out for a few hours.
Some of the tasks that we need help with include:
- Setting up and taking down tables and chairs
- Serving beer and wine
- Supervising the kids area
- Helping with parking and directing traffic
- Providing information to attendees
- Assisting with ticket entrance
- Keeping the area clean
We will follow up with more details and instructions closer to the event date.If you are unable to volunteer, we understand, but we kindly ask that you consider making a donation to support the event. Your contribution will help us cover the costs associated with putting on the food truck rally and make it an even better experience for everyone who attends. You can make a donation by visiting this link.
Of course, we definitely want to have a large crowd there, so please encourage people to buy tickets ahead of time. Here is that link.
Thank you for considering volunteering or making a donation for this exciting event. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Best regards
