Quail Call
February 6, 2023
Dear Families - Read on for the News
Polar Walk - Wednesday, 2/8!
Next Wednesday, we have a fun event called the Polar Walk! Join us for our walking school bus where students all walk or roll to Palouse Prairie as a Crew.
When: Wednesday, February 8th at 8 am
What: Students will be dropped off at Indian Hills Park to walk or roll to school. Any family and friends are welcome to join us on our walk to school.
How: There will be myself and volunteer physical education students from U of I walking with students. Volunteers will be wearing polar bear hats and vests. The drop off place will be at Indian Hills Park and the drop off time is 7:50 am, as we will all start walking to Palouse Prairie at 8 am. Stickers for students who participated in the event will be at the school for students when they arrive!
Why: Students can build community and friendships by walking with their crew to school. This can help students see that even when the weather is cold, they can still get outside and be active!
- Learning Target: I can build friendships when walking with my Crew to school.
- Learning Target: I can appreciate being outside during winter and getting exercise before school.
I hope your child can participate in this event to build our Crew community and promote being active in the winter months!
Please see the attached flyer and email me with any questions.
Thank you!

From the PPCS Development Committee
The Palouse Prairie Charter School Development Committee is seeking new members for fundraising and friendraising. Our school has had wonderful success funding our playground and are halfway to our school year fundraising goal of $30,000. We are seeking funding for our Adventure and Music programs, our Multi-purpose room expansion, and the needs identified by our teachers, Parent Crew, and beyond. If you have skills or interest in helping strategize and set fundraising goals; write and review grant proposals; work with donors and the community; create outreach; or coordinate events, we would love your help. Current committee members are Laura Heinse, Christen Findley, Heather Flynn, Laura Heinse, and Renée Hill and we plan to meet monthly depending on the availability of the group. Please email to Laura at lheinse@palouseprairieschool.org to join us or with any questions.
Thanks for all your hard work building our amazing school and CREW!

Payments to PPCS
We appreciate families making lunch and other payments by check or through their bank's online bill pay feature, if possible. If paying with cash, we prefer the parent bring the payment to the office. You may pull forward to the very end of the loading zone and park your car to run a payment in (5 minutes or less only, please). If cash payments are sent with a student, please put the cash inside a sealed envelope with the student's name, the date, amount enclosed, and what the payment is for, written on the front.
All payments delivered to the school should receive a receipt. Please wait to receive one, ask your student to bring one home, or look for it in their backpack. We recommend you keep your receipt for lunch payments until the transaction appears in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. We are researching affordable apps that will enable families to make lunch payments that will automatically update to their PowerSchool accounts. Contact the office with questions.
Enrollment Lottery & Intent to Return
Returning students do not need a lottery application. In February, an Intent to Return survey will be emailed to all families of currently enrolled students. Please complete and submit the survey to confirm whether your family will be returning to PPCS next school year. This lets us know how many seats we have available in the enrollment lottery. To re-cap:
New students - Lottery Application (currently on website)
Returning students - Intent to Return (emailed in February)
Please email the office with any questions.
