Early Learning Center Update
September 15, 2023
A Greeting from Dr. Champagne-Lee
A big thank you to the PAELC Home and School Association for funding this week's bus assembly with Segal Puppet Theater. The assembly performers reinforced our bus rules in a fun and engaging way.
This was our first full week of the new school year. Beginning of the year benchmark assessments are fully underway. These assessments in both reading and mathematics gives us an understanding of each student's starting point and helps to guide our instruction.
Have a great weekend.
Educationally Yours,
Keya Champagne-Lee, Ed.D.

Morning Arrival: Success and A Request
Arrival has gone smoothly overall during the first three weeks of the new year. We have been able to move all cars through the line quickly, and have been able to wrap-up this process by 8:55 a.m. We are proud to see the independence of our young learners with unbuckling their seatbelts and exiting their vehicles in a timely manner. To further expedite this process, we would like for as many families as possible to utilize the car line drop-off system. While we recognize that a very small number of families have extenuating circumstances requiring them to park and walk to the crosswalk, this option must only be used if there is an absolute need. Additionally, no families should be parking at the secondary campus during arrival. This takes away from parking for our secondary students and staff. Thank you for your support and partnership with following our protocols.
PACS Food Drive
PACS Community Food Drive โ September 18-26
Please join us in filling the pantry and market at PACS! We will hold a food drive in each building, starting September 18-26. Families may bring food in to school and drop off in the designated boxes in each building. Additionally, the PACS vans will be on site at the Community BBQ on September 22 and will be accepting donations there. Please help us support this very important resource in our community!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Picture Day
Picture Day is coming on Friday September 22nd! All students will be photographed whether or not they are ordering a picture package. Order forms were sent home this week. Online ordering is also available. To request financial assistance with purchasing a Picture Day package, families must contact School Counselor Brittany Dellaquila (DellaquilaB@pasd.com) by Wednesday 9/20/23.

MORNING ARRIVAL: IMPORTANT ๐
As we seek to make our morning drop off procedure safer and more efficient, we are implementing some changes this year. Parents and guardians are asked to remain in their cars. Please help your child learn to unbuckle seat belts and car seats this summer. *The goal is that all students will be proficient with this task by the first day of school. Remember to give hugs and kisses at home to ensure that the drop off process flows smoothly. Thank you for your grace and patience, particularly during the first few weeks of school. ๐
Reminder: Drivers should not be on their cell phones during drop off in order to facilitate a safe and speedy drop off.
Student Arrival:
8:40 a.m.-8:55 a.m.
Late arrival:
After 8:55 a.m.
Students must be signed in by a parent/guardian.
Here are the procedures:
- Drivers will enter the parking lot from Pothouse Road and stay to the right following signs to loop around to the car loop lane.
- Doors open at 8:40 a.m. and staff members will be waiting on the sidewalk to greet students. Please note: Staff members cannot open or close car doors for students.
- Students should be seated in the rear passenger side and will exit the vehicle independently. This is a curbside drop-off process. Parents must remain in their cars.
- Students can only exit a car if the car has reached the sidewalk area. Staff members will direct drivers and students when they should exit the car.
- Drivers may not pass other cars unless directed to do so. Please wait until all students in cars next to the sidewalk are completely unloaded.
- Students arriving after 8:55 a.m. will be considered late. After this time, parents or guardians must park in the lot and walk their children into the building. Upon entering the main office, please check-in with an office team member and complete a tardy slip.
*If your child requires special accommodations when exiting the car, and is unable to do this independently, we ask that you park in the lot and escort them to the crosswalk area. Please note, this strategy is only applicable for families with a special need.
NEW DISMISSAL EXPECTATIONS: PICKUP PATROL ๐
PickUp Patrol is Coming!
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES: The Phoenixville Area Early Learning Center and all elementary buildings will be using PickUp Patrol effective at the start of the year to help us better manage our dismissal process. PickUp Patrol saves time for our office staff, reduces classroom interruptions, and most importantly, adds a layer of safety for our students. PickUp Patrol is used by several neighboring districts to streamline early dismissals and dismissal changes.
On August 8, you should have received a registration email with a link to set up your account.
Use the PUP web app for:
ATTENDANCE: Notify the school office when your child will be absent, arriving late or leaving early.
DISMISSAL CHANGES: Submit changes to your childโs regular dismissal plans.
For example:
โ Your child normally rides the bus but is getting picked up today.
โ Your child usually goes to aftercare but is leaving early for an appointment.
How it works:
Parents need to enter your child's regular dismissal plan into the system. This is called their Default Plan. Then, whenever you have a change to the Default Plan, youโll submit it through the PUP app. When the change is submitted, the school will be notified, and your childโs teacher will relay the change to them.
Getting started:
1. REGISTER: On August 8, 2023, you should have received a registration email with a link to set up your account.
โ The web app is free to parents, and you can use it from your smartphone or computer.
โ For easy access, follow the instructions in your registration email for how to add it to your phoneโs home screen (PUP is not accessed through the app stores).
1. ENTER DEFAULT PLANS: Once you register, log into your PickUp Patrol account no later than August 25, 2023 to confirm your childโs default dismissal plan. Itโs important that you complete this step so that we can accurately dismiss your children.
Notes, emails, or phone calls will be accepted for changes for the first week, but starting September 5, 2023, all changes should be submitted through PickUp Patrol.
Thank you for using PUP to make safety a priority and to ensure our dismissal process is efficient for all our students. If you have any questions, please first check the PUP FAQ page. If you still need help, contact us here in the office.
