Students participated in "Growth" mindset reflection activity, designing a petal and considered ways they are diverse, want to respect others and what they appreciate about themselves. Great to see it all come together- 6th graders will participate in this activity later this month with their Peer Mentors. 7/8th graders have a character building lesson next week as well focused on acceptance and respect during IE.

Congratulations to all of our August Mustangs of the Month who were celebrated Thursday with ice cream and friends. Students came home with a certificate and individual Mustang of the Month Magnet! Thank you PTA for purchasing these keepsakes to remember this special recognition! Feel free to place magnets on our car, fridge or locker!

Mrs. Delahunty, Family Consumer Science teacher is new to our district and building this year. She has collaborated with our elementary kindergarten teachers with a bear project. Kindergarteners create a bear and the FCS students at SMS create it. The bear is meant to be a reading buddy to the Kindergarteners. We are excited to keep parents updated on this creative and adorable community project!

The Book Fair is coming to Strongsville Middle School October 4-7! Flyers will be coming home with your students this week. Parents and guardians can also shop during conferences Tuesday evening.

We appreciate all of our staff and what they do for our students every day. SMS acknowledges two Model Mustang staff, who model our Model Mustang competencies in their daily work. Congratulations to Mrs. Bluemel and Ms. Moore!

See below how this works! Student, Ben received a PQR for being inclusive. A staff member gave him a PQR to scan, he scanned it to his desktop using a QR reader and then filled in a form identifying: Who gave it to him, What PRIDE behavior he is being acknowledged for: Prepared, Respect, Inclusive, Determined or Engaged and chooses a reward raffle to participate in.

Thanks to our PTA and parent donations, students have a chance to win monthly, quarterly or semester drawings after receiving a PQR. All students who get a PQR each week automatically are in a weekly raffle as well.

Our PBIS team will also use this data to see what areas we are recognizing and those we need to reinforce to support our area of improvement. Ask your student today if they received a PQR and why!

Did you know that earlier this year our Board of Education approved several new clubs and after school activities for our elementary schools? Each elementary school has been given an opportunity to develop extracurriculars based on student interest and feedback. Whether it be service learning, arts, athletics, STEM, or other creative offerings, students now have more opportunities to discover new interests and talents outside of the school day. Elementary activities add to the existing clubs and organizations found at SMS and SHS. Issue 68, the renewal levy for Strongsville City Schools on the November ballot, helps to support these extracurricular opportunities for our students. Clubs, organizations, and activities provide important growth opportunities for our students to develop life skills outside of the classroom.

Students who are out due to a quarantine may be provided a Google Meet link for their classrooms (if not a link, instructional videos and materials on Google Classroom). Please note that just because a student is sick or absent from school, the teachers are not required to provide live stream instruction. However, absent students can always check their Google Classroom for assignments and any additional information and reach out to their teachers for additional questions.
