Good morning Fulton Families,
As we near the end of the first quarter, it's a great time to reflect with our students about what they have learned, ways in which they have grown, and areas to improve. HCPSS report cards will be issued on November 8th.
In preparation of receiving your child’s report card and for Parent Teacher Conferences, we'd like to share some resources provided by HCPSS to support you in understanding your child’s report through the Elementary Standards-Based Instruction and Reporting for Families Canvas page.
Lastly, we want to give a HUGE thank you to all the parents/guardians for helping to keep our Coffee Bar alive for our staff. We had an overwhelming response and we are grateful for you!
Warmly,
Dr. Burks, Mrs. Liwosz, & Mrs. Sillers
Halloween at FES
At FES, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all our students and their families. In alignment with our school system's strong commitment to equity and inclusion, FES will implement the following guidelines surrounding the celebration of Halloween:
Halloween-related activities like parades and parties will not occur during regular school hours.
Instructional materials related to Halloween will not be utilized in the classroom.
Both students and staff are kindly requested to refrain from wearing Halloween costumes to school.
We genuinely appreciate your understanding of the decision to forgo Halloween activities during the school day. Your support is instrumental in our mission to create an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere for every student at FES.
We hope that your child will join us in a fun Fall Spirit Week this week.
FES is celebrating Veterans Day on Friday, November 10, 2023. We will read information about Veterans Day on the morning announcements and we would be honored to host our veterans for a light breakfast and assembly. Please RSVP here by November 3 if you plan to attend our event. Due to space, we only ask that our veterans join us for this event. In honor of our veteran family members, we would love to highlight people in your life who have served our country. If your child would like to share information about the Veteran(s) in their family, please help them to create a mini poster. The students can do this electronically with this google slide or can create their own! Please note that these will be on display and may not be returned. If you do not have access to a color printer, please email to Velicia_James@HCPSS.org by Nov 7 to ensure time to print the finished product.
Square One Art
On Thursday, your child brought home information about our Square One Art fundraiser. Each child completed a piece of art in school. Now this art can come to life and be captured on a keepsake! The flyer that is coming home will have a QR code for you to scan in order to access the website. If you are interested in ordering, all orders are due by Nov 10.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Liwosz. Thank you!
FES Falcons invited to participate in The Young Author's Contest
It’s back!! The Howard County Literacy Association invites students in grades 1-5 to submit their original poems and/or short stories to the annual writing contest called The Young Authors' Contest. Please see the attached Young Authors’ Contest Guidelines for rules and submission requirements. All entries must have a completed YAC Cover Sheet sent as a PDF. Submissions (and cover sheets) may be emailed to Mrs. Menikheim, Cassandra_menikheim@hcpss.org) or we will also except paper copies. The due date for the entries is December 11th.
Young Authors’ Contest information can also be found on the HCLA website.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming soon!
Parent-Teacher Conference time is quickly approaching! Conferences with Homeroom/Language Arts teachers will take place on November 20-November 22. Please note the schedule below:
- In- person conferences will be held on Monday, Nov. 20th only
- Virtual conferences will be held on Nov. 21st or Nov. 22nd only
To schedule your conference, please access your HCPSS Connect account. You will be able to schedule your child’s conference beginning on November 6th at 8:00 AM through November 16th at 4:00 PM. Please click this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AflvnekdMybJRsoEa2gAHMlkf0EUeReu/view to find step-by-step scheduling instructions.
Parents of students who are enrolled in 4th Grade GT Math ONLY- please sign up for conferences with your child's homeroom teacher as well as your child's math teacher. All other math conferences will happen during winter conferences.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Conferences:
- Be on time for your conference, as they are only 15 minutes in length. Teachers will not be able to give you additional time past your scheduled 15 minutes.
- Be prepared: Be familiar with your child’s first quarter report card grades. Respectfully bring up any questions or concerns.
- When signing up, we suggest a 15-minute buffer between conferences to allow for travel time around our building if you are meeting in-person on Monday.

Conclusion of the Pumpkin Patch
Our last day of the FES Pumpkin Patch was another picture perfect day!
We hope all of the students enjoyed the pumpkin patch this year!
Huge thanks to Jennifer Meyer who coordinated and negotiated and placed all 1,000 or so pumpkins. She even had her kids and family helping put pumpkins out week after week at 7:30 in the morning. Another thanks to Nilam Gosai who was the PTA Board POC and worked alongside Jen, also setting up week after week. Thanks to all of the volunteers who also supported our efforts - we couldn’t have done this without you! We appreciate you all for making this possible!!
Support Parent/Teacher Conference for Staff
Fulton Elementary School Parent/Teacher Conferences are approaching in late November and we are getting an early start on donations. Our goal is to keep the teachers’ lounge stocked with snacks during conferences so teachers can go grab a snack throughout the afternoon and evening; in addition to providing desserts for the catered dinner we have planned during evening conferences on November 20th.
