Miller Elementary Weekly Update
April 16, 2023
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families,
How lucky were we to have a full week of amazing weather and extra time outdoors in mid-April! Our preschool and kindergarten children are enjoying playtime with bubbles, chalk, and some games with our friends. We hope your family enjoyed some time outdoors too!
We continue to have a stomach bug impacting some of our students at Miller. Although it's way fewer than before spring break, please monitor your child for symptoms and ensure they are symptom-free without medication for 24 hours prior to their return to school. We also are coming into allergy season so please make sure your child is comfortable with their allergy symptoms during their time at school. As a reminder, all over-the-counter medication needs a doctor's note to be administered or used during school hours. You can request a medication document from your child's teacher and we will gladly send one home.
Repeat Reminders:
We will be hosting our Kindergarten Screening and Building Tours on April 17th, 18th & 19th! Most of our preschool families transitioning to kindergarten already know our building very well, so as a reminder we will be conducting your child's kindergarten screening during their normal preschool day. We will send home a copy of your child's screening, important information about kindergarten, and some fun giveaways! I will also email you pictures of your child participating in the screening along with some fun pictures in our Welcome to Kindergarten Photobooth.
You may have noticed we have a special PBIS Assembly with Slider from the Cleveland Guardians and the CLE Hot Dogs on May 18th in the afternoon! I will be sharing more details about this fun event and how our morning preschoolers and kindergarteners can also come and attend this celebration. Please watch our newsletter and a separate flyer about the specific details of our end-of-the-year assembly!
We have confirmed the date for our Preschool Graduation. We will celebrate our preschool graduates on Tuesday, May 23rd from 5:30-6:30 PM on the Miller Playground. More information about this event will be shared in the weeks ahead. As a reminder, this event is for our preschoolers who will be graduating and moving on to kindergarten for the 23-24 school year! There is no graduation ceremony for our rising first graders.
Take care,

A Message from Mrs. Menta - Craddock Principal
Greetings Families of Incoming First Graders!
It is hard to believe but, we are fully in the planning phase for the 23-24 school year. Below you will find the link to a Student Placement Parent Feedback form. While I cannot accept specific teacher requests, you are invited to fill out the short Google form linked below to share what type of teacher your child does best with. I will personally read all of those submissions and combine your thoughts with the information from our school staff to make the best placement for your child. If you would like your feedback considered, please fill out this form instead of emailing me. It helps me greatly to stay organized and have all of this important information in one place! You are also more than welcome to come in and meet with me to talk about your thoughts. My contact information is below.
We need to begin placement of students in approximately one month, so any feedback you'd like to provide must be to me no later than Friday, May 12th if you would like it considered. Thank you and please reach out with any questions, concerns or feedback!
Spring Music Updates
Hello Families!
The spring is full of musical sounds and your child has been wonderfully learning about rhythm patterns, moving to the beat and choreographed movements to folk partner songs with classmates. We are sharing a digital music performance with our kindergarten families this year instead of a music concert. Your classroom teacher will share this copy by the end of the school year.
Look for a few sneak previews in ClassDojo this spring as we continue to learn and grow in our musical abilities!
All the best,
Mrs. Iriarte
PBIS Implementation Throughout the 22-23 School Year
Our goal is to teach children what it looks like and feels like to exhibit our 3 big ideas which will help them have a positive experience at Miller Elementary. This effort is to ensure that we are proactively teaching the expectations and acknowledging children for doing what is expected instead of using a more punitive-based system. Natural consequences look like relearning how to walk in the hallways, how to have safe hands on the playground, or how to clean up after snack. Children learn best from practicing and modeling what is expected. We work to re-teach or re-practice any skills that are still emerging with whole class lessons, small group lessons, or individual practice sessions as needed.
Remember if you are noticing a behavior at home, help your child by reteaching what you want them to do and celebrate each time you see that expected behavior. They are used to this at school so we're sure it will help at home too!

Extra Clothes
1: Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in their backpack. This includes extra socks and underwear. They often feel more comfortable in their own clothing.
2: Our clinic is running low on pants. If your family has a pair of girls or boys pants that your child has out grown and you would be willing to donate to our school, we would appreciate any donations. Please send in washed items labeled "Extra Clinic Clothes" and we will put them to good use. Thank you!
School Counselor Updates: Mrs. Ambrosia
Hello Families! I am happy to share all Kindergarten Students are ZONES of Regulation “graduates.” This means they can recognize and identify their feelings and connect those feelings with possible coping skills. We have been working over the last few weeks to understand all feelings are okay, triggers may cause certain feelings, and coping skills are the things we do to self-regulate. Triggers are the events that happen right before a feeling. Coping skills help us “regulate,” independently. If we can’t self-regulate, it’s okay to ask a trusted adult to help us!
While your student has some visual reminders about coping skills within their classroom and possibly some that they brought home, I wanted to provide you with additional resources to ensure you can find the coping skill that best suits your home needs. Please check out these additional resources below:
As always, please reach out with any questions! I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend at home with your families!

Reporting Absences
We ask that you call Miller School at 330-562-6199 to either speak with Vicki Wolf or leave a message. Please share your child's first name, last name, teacher, and the reason for the absence. If they are going to an appointment, please ask for a doctor's note to have on file here at school. Thank you!
If your family will have a planned absence due to an event or vacation, you will need to fill out a planned absence form for our schools. Please send in a note requesting this form as soon as you know your anticipated date.
If your child is experiencing illness symptoms and you have questions for our school nurse, Jackie Pawlowski, you may call 330-954-2286. She can help answer any questions.
