Slaybaugh School Complex
Week of November 8, 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Slaybaugh Families,
As we conclude our third week of hybrid learning, we thank you so much for all of your continued cooperation and patience as we work to make this next phase as successful as possible. This week Mrs. Casumpang, Slaybaugh's Assistant Principal, and I had the opportunity to visit Kindergarten-Third Grade homerooms. We wanted to introduce ourselves to the students, both in-person and virtual, as everyone is looking a little different these days in their masks!
We read the book The Day the Lines Changed, a children's story about the pandemic and the ways that it has changed things for all of us. During our conversations with students we discussed some of the different ways that we have been adjusting to change and keeping everyone safe. One of our favorite pieces of advice was, "Buy as much toilet paper as you can!" Although the answers to these questions were all different there was one question we asked that got the same answer from everyone: "Are you happy to be back at school?" Each time we asked students, we were met with a resounding "yes!" So although this time has presented unique and difficult challenges, the payoff speaks for itself. It was so refreshing to see and talk to so many happy students this week. I hope you and your families a safe and restful weekend.
Sincerely,
Joe Marinelli

Second Grade Students Observe Veterans Day
Students in Mrs. Pellegrini's class had a special visitor on Monday, November 9th in honor of Veterans Day (November 11th). Sergeant John "Cory" Mitchell is a close family friend of Alexandra Ruffenach, a student in Mrs. Pellegrini's class. Sergeant Mitchell served proudly in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years. He spoke to the class about his travels and all that he learned during his time served. The class also had an opportunity to ask questions. It was very informative and a wonderful way for the class to celebrate Veterans Day.
Parents and grandparents from Mrs. Huba's Class spoke about their military experiences as their class began to learn about Veteran's Day. In attendance (virtually) were:
Mr. Basso-US Army
Mr. Brady-Active US Coat Guard
Mr. Carey-US Marines & Active US Army Reserve
Mr. Lewis-US Marines
Mr. Warington- US Navy
Mr. Wasserman-US Air Force
Third Graders of the Round Table
After reading Knights in Shining Armor and learning about Knights, the students in Mrs. Sansom's class created their own Knight shields with a personally created Coat of Arms.
