Mill Creek Magic Messages
News and Updates from Mr. Croyle and Mr. Murtha 9/15/2023
From Mr. Croyle and Mr. Murtha
We are truly "back in the swing of things" at school! Although our school year only started last week, students and staff have settled in, and the "feel" of the building is positive. After spending a good deal of time last week laying foundations for classroom communities, teachers started into some of the early academic instruction this week. We are headed towards an amazing year of learning and fun!
One of the wonderful traditions of coming back to school started this past Wednesday night, as we welcomed our 1st and 2nd Grade families to Back to School Night. We appreciate the incredible turnout! We were thrilled to provide our 1st and 2nd Grade families with the opportunity to meet your child's teacher and to learn about the instruction and relationship-building that will happen in each classroom throughout the school year. You can check out some 1st/2nd Grade Back to School Night photos further below. We look forward to welcoming our 3rd and 4th Grade families on Monday night and our 5th and 6th Grade families on Tuesday night.
We also want to thank our Home and School for organizing and for the many parent volunteers who came to help scoop and distribute water ice during our Rita's Water Ice charity event today! Our soon to be organized new Student Council members will be choosing a wonderful organization to which we will donate on behalf of Mill Creek. Some photos of our Rita's event can also be viewed further below.
Finally, we have seen so many of our students being "Difference Makers" (our building theme this year) already! Helping younger students find classrooms, positive greetings entering school and in the hallways, and respectful behavior towards one another and towards adults are just some examples of what we have been observing on a regular basis. These may seem small, but when they occur throughout the day and throughout the building, they make a big difference!
Thank you for your support to start the school year and for your continued support as we move forward! Have a wonderful weekend!

Important Message about PM Car Riders...
Dear Mill Creek Community,
We wanted to provide the community with an update on Car Rider Dismissal. For the first eight student days, we have observed how our car riders are dismissed. As student safety is our number one priority, we want to thank the families that have started to utilize our Car Placard protocol. We also want to thank the families for following directions from the staff. To continue to provide the safest environment possible, I ask families to follow the following guidelines:
- Utilize the Car Placard
- If you don’t have one, simply request one and we will send it home with your child or personally hand to you.
- Utilize the Car Line
- If all families utilize the car line, we won’t experience any students or community members walking through the parking lot.
- Stay in line
- Please stay behind the car in front of you. Do NOT pull around a car to leave the lot unless directed by a staff member.
- Do NOT park in the parking lot
- Please refrain from parking in the parking lot and then either waiting for your child or walking across the campus, finding your child, and then walking back to your car.
We are hopeful these measures will assist the school in ensuring the safest environment possible for your children. We will provide the community another update in the near future.
Respectfully,
-Mr. Croyle and Mr. Murtha

MTSS and STAR Assessment Information
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Central Bucks School District is committed to ensuring that each child makes significant academic progress. To do this, we have been implementing a research-based process to link academic support with specific student learning needs. This process is known as a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and provides all students with timely and targeted instruction based upon the results of various assessment tools in reading and mathematics.
The universal assessments provide baseline data that will allow our educators to design and deliver targeted instruction to ensure that your child is learning the appropriate skills at each grade level. These screening assessments are typically administered to all students three times per year. Student and grade level scores are reviewed by the MTSS support team, including classroom teachers. Using the data, teams identify students or student groups in need of targeted, skill-specific intervention or enrichment. The use of universal assessment tools refines and strengthens our efforts to help all of our students be successful by allowing us to take positive and preventative measures as early as possible.
The universal assessment tools in math and reading are very similar to tools we use every day to help us determine where students might have gaps in knowledge and need assistance.
The Star Assessments by Renaissance, which were adopted by the district two years ago, are completed by students electronically in class. More information for parents is available on the Renaissance website at Family Resources- Star Assessments. The Star Assessments are simply one tool amongst many that Central Bucks uses to help determine and deliver timely, targeted instruction for our students. As in the past with our prior assessments, you will be notified if your child is in need of intervention or enrichment supports. We will be giving the first Star Assessments between September 11 and September 22.
Thank you for your willingness to assist us in building a system of student supports that is linked directly to data. This will ensure that each of our students has the opportunity to receive the assistance they need to achieve academic success. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.
Respectfully,
Mr. Croyle and Mr. Murtha

IMPORTANT INFORMATION...
- The District is requiring that family members have their Volunteer Clearances to enter the school for any events involving direct supervision of students (e.g. classroom celebrations; school dances). Any volunteer role in the school would fall under this designation. The link to apply for volunteer clearances is directly below.
Human Resources / VOLUNTEER Required Paperwork (cbsd.org) - As items can be misplaced in classrooms and beyond, please label appropriate items with your child's name, so we can better locate them if they become separated from your child. Thank you for your help!
TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION: - Teachers should have a clear understanding of how each student is leaving school on a daily basis. If, for some reason, you change your child’s typical routine, please communicate with the office staff and homeroom teacher before 3:00PM.
- Office Staff
- Bernadette Quindlen (bquindlen@cbsd.org)
- Jackie Guth (jguth@cbsd.org)
- For our Private Car Riders, we will be sending home a “placard” for each family. Most likely, we will hand this placard directly to you during dismissal over the next few days. Please make sure to write your family’s name on the placard and have it on display when picking up your child.
- If your child is a BUS RIDER and is in kindergarten or first grade, you must be present at your child’s bus stop. If the child has an older sibling on the bus to assist, simply inform the bus driver so that he/she is aware.
- During the first week or two of school, transportation can be delayed. The school district is constantly trying to revamp routes, etc…to make things more efficient. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
- During the first week of school, we will be closely observing our arrival and dismissal practices. During these observations, safety is my number one priority. If I see the need to make any adjustments, I will make sure to effectively communicate with the community.

Home and School Association News and Flyers
- We are pleased to share that we are in a position this year where we will not be asking for HSA dues from families. This includes no need to solicit for classroom party funds this year. We will likely need to resume soliciting dues in future years, but we hope this news for the 2023-2024 school year comes as welcome news!
- Please know that, while dues will not be solicited this year, there will likely be times when we ask for payment for activity fees. As is always the case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office if an activity fee is solicited and your family may have difficulty with payment - we are here to help!
- The District is now insistent that adult visitors to school buildings beyond the main office have their Volunteer Clearances. There is an application process, which only takes a bit of time and is fairly simple. The link below will take you to a page with detailed information about obtaining your Volunteer Clearances.
